A new weapon installed on Russian warships can make enemy soldiers miss targets by blinding them, while also causing hallucinations and making them want to vomit.

Two Russian frigates were fitted with the new non-lethal dazzler-type weapon, the 5P-42 Filin (eagle-owl), the manufacturer’s representative told RIA Novosti. The weapon is designed to temporarily blind the enemy.

This new weapons system may be similar in concept to the high-volume sonic weapons that have been deployed world wide for a number of years. Used against Green Peace raiders, these sonic weapons have been deployed on Japanese whaling 'research' vessels in the South Atlantic. But even if the RT description of the new Russian system is a bit hyped, it still would be a formidable weapon but primarily useful in close-in encounters. It's usefulness at long range would seem questionable.

I get those same effects when eating peyote.

Cheap vodka?

I get those same effects when eating peyote.

I collected a dozen specimens of the cactus Trichocereus pachanoi (aka Saint Peter or San Pedro)while traveling on business in AZ & CA & had them shipped home. Successfully cultivated them outdoors in summer in big clay pots, then brought them inside into my sunny plant room during cold weather. The technical descriptions of this plant were correct, as were the tales of Peruvian shamans using extracts of this cactus in mystical hallucinatory rituals. Same active ingredient as peyote: mescaline, a powerful hallucinogen.

Sonic attacks in China and Cuba: how sound can be a weapon

Sonic attacks in China and Cuba: how sound can be a weapon

Reports of “sonic attacks” in China, and previously in Cuba, have left many wondering whether sonic weapons could be targeting US diplomats. Victims have reportedly experienced mild brain injuries with symptoms including “subtle and vague, but abnormal, sensations of sound and pressure”. Little is known for definite but the symptoms do suggest that some sort of sonic interference could have taken place. It is unlikely to be the result of a deliberate “sonic attack”. Instead, these injuries are probably the side effects of intrusive surveillance.

Sonic weapons fall into two categories: those that involve audible frequencies, and those that are either ultrasonic or infrasonic and so are inaudible.

I actually doubt they made such a weapon, russians are masters at electronic warfare, but this reeks of maskirovka or in english military deception. Knowing somewhat how they function this is a shiny claim to focus american recources to counter, while in reality they are actually fielding something more practical and secret.

If you want to understand what they are planning, realize what they are bragging about in their right hand is a diversion from what is in their left hand.

Interesting.

I doubt this is valid. Reminds me of the touted Russian AI robot (with a human inside).

Any thoughts on what might have happened to the USS Donald Cook a few years back in the Black Sea?

The donald cook was jammed, even members on the ship admitted it, but russia did lie about what happened. For one the su-24 does not produce enough power to run an electronic jammer that powerful, and the one the russians claimed they used their own engineers admitted could not in any way be run on an su-24, the su-35 was the only jet designed to power and mount the jammer. Further russia claimed it shut off the power to the electronics, which is bs, as an emp would permanently damage those electronics not temporarily shut them down, the only other possible solution would be the ships systems being hacked and massive loopholes allowing it's systems to be hacked through a single entry port, which would require massive security holes a first grader with no computer knowledge could find.

So likely russia simply used a bigger jammer and simply jammed their radars missiles and communications, using a sub another ship or some other aircraft, in which russia would never admit they used and america would never admit they knew it was there.

What ever happened to just killing the enemy?

That sounds most plausible. Considering the distance from shore for the Cook, I wonder if any shore based equipment might have participated in the jamming, if the aircraft was just for visual effect.

The aircraft was just for visual effect, it spun around buzzing the ship as close as it could, with no weapons, it was meant to be a message not an attack. Russians can do directed or all out jamming, and just like jammers used elsewhere in the world, they are power hungry and all out jammers not just requiring mass energy to run but also blind the user as well as the target.

For a ship though even with a directed jamming effort, it would need mass power as multiple frequencies are used between gps radio radar etc, something an old cold war bomber could never handle, they can fly fast as hell and drop a big payload, but that is about the extent of what they were designed for.

The Russian state has never commented on the Cook incident, and the Russian and western media reports should be taken with a pinch of salt.

We shall never know the truth.

The reports came from state owned russian media, so instead of them directly saying it they told media to say it, still not much different.
