A series of tweets today by Ukraine watchers has noted a remarkable leak from a Russian media source that was immediately taken down; Russian KIA is as bad or worse than even Ukraine has estimated.

This is astounding. No wonder Putin is stripping his regional commands for troops...unreal and likely true.

If these numbers are accurate the Russian invasion is literally on the verge of collapsing, at least temporarily. What would the implications of this be? There is no way Putin will just throw his hands in the air and shrug his shoulders.

Tactical nukes.

There is no doubt in my mind that another one or two weeks at this rate will effectively end all Russian offensive operations, save for shelling and missile strikes. Russian troops are already digging in, and I am skeptical that more than a few thousand Syrians will actually sign up. Beylorussia is the HUGE wild card here, as they may contribute 40,000 to the cauldron.

As always, it returns to the pivotal issue. Without protection from the skys, Ukraine cannot go on the offensive. Ukraine needs those fighters and several more batteries of S-300s.

If NATO is not training Ukrainians in eastern Europe on NATO anti-aircraft systems it is criminal. It's almost as if they want to bleed Ukraine out rather than take decisive action.

I wish the numbers were tripled.

Sooner or later the Russian people need to get the information that their state controlled media are required to withhold from them.

Or perhaps they are looking to avoid war that involves their countries...

How much longer will the civilized nations of this world allow that little twerp to murder young Ukrainian and Russian young men?

When, oh when, are the United States and NATO going to grab that monster and put him on a plane to The Hague for war crimes?

And then supervise free and honest elections in Russia for a genuinely democratic Russia?

For example, this French system:

Overview

SAMP/T is a theater-level air defense system designed for point defense against current and future airborne threats. One of only a handful of European-produced systems that can counter ballistic missiles, SAMP/T is developed by Eurosam and jointly owned by MBDA Missile Systems and Thales. The system is fielded by Italy and France to protect against UAVs, cruise missiles, short-range ballistic missiles ranging up to 600 km, and fighter aircraft.https://missiledefenseadvocacy.org/defense-systems/sampt-air-defense-system/#_edn1

System components include a command and control vehicle, Arabal radar, and up to six transporter erector launcher (TEL) vehicles, each equipped with eight Aster interceptors and a supply of reload missiles.[ii]Mounted on either a Renault 8 x 4 Kerax (France) transporter erector launcher (TEL) or an Astra (Italy) 8 x 8 TEL, the road-mobile system is capable of providing air defense for units at maneuver pace and can be airlifted by the latest NATO tactical transport aircraft for rapid long-distance deployment.[iii]

SAMP/T uses Aster 15 and Aster 30 interceptors, with maximum ranges of over 30 and 120 km respectively. Aster interceptors use solid propellant and have two stages. To track and intercept aerial targets, Aster interceptors use inertial guidance and tracking information provided by Arabel radar and employ an electromagnetic active seeker in the homing phase. Aster 30 interceptors are capable of reaching an altitude of 20 km and a velocity of Mach 4.5.[iv]Once identified and tracked, Aster interceptors employ proximity fuses and blast fragmentation warheads to incapacitate aerial targets.[v]SAMP/T has 360-degree detection and engagement coverage capability provided by the rotating multi-functional Arabel radar antenna. It is also capable of tracking 100 aerial targets and engaging 10 simultaneously. The system is designed to counter advanced aerial targets and has a high resistance to counter-measures.[vi]

What is scary is, if that's the Russians killed, how many Ukranians have died? Russia is the larger force and they have taken territory. So it would seem to me, Ukranians must be taking a hammering, too.

I don't think our government wants us to know the number.

Someone accidently leaked the real Russian troops KIA numbers?
Somebody's gonna get sent to Siberia. Do not pass Go. Do not collect 200 Rubles.

I'm sure they have. But unlike the Russian conscripts, they fight for a cause. I imagine many thousands of civilians have died, yet to be discovered and tallied.

Righteous fury in immediately necessary defense of one's family and one's country is nigh invincible. Consider unending resistance to the far more successful Nazi invasion of Europe.

I expected this conflict to quickly devolve into such a resistance. And it would have, had Russia been anywhere near as competent/strong as Germany was then.

But President Volodymyr Zelensky said “Ukraine cannot fulfill ultimatums.” “We simply cannot do this physically. We’ve lost people. How, how can you do this?,” he said in remarks published on social media by a Ukrainian public TV channel, adding: “For example, ‘give us Kharkiv, give us Mariupol, give us Kyiv.’ Not the residents of Kharkiv, not of Mariupol, not of Kyiv, not the president — we can’t do this.”
In Kyiv, an attack on a major shopping mall late Sunday left much of the area in rubble. At least eight people were killed, and blood-soaked jackets littered the ground even after bodies were removed from the site. It was the latest in a series of violent strikes in recent days that have left civilians on edge. Taking the city, according to Britain’s Defense Ministry, remains “Russia’s primary military objective.”

See how he says that they cannot do this. Take that literally. He's saying it isn't an option. Put anything on the other side of the scale, anything no matter how unspeakably evil, and it doesn't matter....because there is nothing to weigh it against.

They must fight. That is how they see it. Not 'we must fight because our country is being attacked', not "we must fight because this is wrong." But we are not able to surrender. An absolute duty.

Praise them with great praise!

Weapons porn on top of casualty figure fetishes......................weird

Remember when the Russian Empire collapsed at the end of WW2 because the army revolted against being thrown into an endless meatgrinder and all the opposition parties like the Left SRs and Bolsheviks decided to storm the palace? I have a feeling that history will end up repeating itself if Putin does not reconcile his territorial ambitions with reality. Not that I have any issue with that, but I get a feeling he would.

It's hard to put a 'like' on this; think of it as a thank you.

Which would mean the end of Putzin. NATO would have to respond, seeing as the use of nuclear weapons by him would classify Putzin as a clear and present danger to the rest of the world.
Would they? It's not a NATO country and several countries have them , though they've never been used.

Collapse of the Russian Empire wasn't the only thing that happened, though.

I think you very well may be right. I hope you are right. But we should have clear and open eyes: if it happens, it doesn't mean that what comes next is better.

Says who?

Last time I checked, there was no protocol stating NATO had to get involved after a nuclear detonation between third parties.

Wrong again. nato will only act if attacked.

This all explains the recent froth about Hunter Biden's laptop.

This war may end in a stalemate.

No war of aggression right next to Russia should end in a stalemate.

Putin clearly overestimated his military and underestimated the Ukrainians.
