Recent polls in the UK indicate almost 80% of Britons would renounce their citizenship in exchange for free land in Russia. Would you?

"Disillusioned by life in modern Britain, 78% of more than 22,000 respondents replied 'Yes! Bargain' to the question Would you move to Russia in exchange for free land?'”

The excitement came after it was revealed that President Putin is offering 2.5 acres of land for free to people willing to move to the country’s Siberian wilderness in a bid to boost the area’s economy.

As part of the deal, successful applicants would receive Russian citizenship and be able to sell, rent or give away the land only after five years.

Treated by some as a propaganda move, the fact is that this offer is being made to everyone – Russians and non-Russians. As RT reports: "Putin […] signed a law offering land plots of 1 hectare (2.5 acres) to Russians and naturalized citizens for free."

With the Global Warming reality upon us, Siberia might be a temperate paradise sooner than one might think. Russia needs people for its' huge topography and 2.5 acres is enough for a home and a good garden. The Silk Road rail line will go through the area and their are large mineral, gas and petro resources. Might be a great opportunity for a young man or woman.[

80% of Brits? Lol. The odds are excellent that the Kremlin-owned and managed RT is peddling some BS here.

Smart plan by Russia. But no way is the number anywhere close to 78%.

Had they read the article in the OP, I think that they would have voted differently. This isn't a modern version of Oregon Trail, where you get a nice piece of the Willamette Valley, this is trying to survive in a place where people have said "Oh hell no!!!" for millenia. Short summers, long harsh winters, poor soil, virtually non-existent infrastructure and the risk of doing all that work and then having Putin tell you "Yeah, we changed our mind. You need to go back to Britain. Thanks for building the nice house and all the fencing you put up."

The climate is a plus to me, lol.

I have heard the Tigers help keep the brown bear population in check!
Seriously, it would likely be cheaper and easier to move to Alaska, and buy the land.
