Things must not be going as planned for Putin. What happened to the Russian military everyone feared so much? Seems it made up of mostly outdated and low tech equipment.

March 13 (Reuters) - Russia has asked China for military equipment since its Feb. 24 invasion of Ukraine, the Financial Times and Washington Post reported on Sunday, citing U.S. officials.

Why is Russia running to China now if all is going great, as planned, for Russia as I just read in another thread here?

I guess the plan right along was to run to China when Ukraine kicked the shit out of his WW2 military.

Well maybe not as quickly as he planned but there is little doubt, he's pretty much slaughtered Ukraine. If that was his plan, he's certainly executing that plan.

I do not think he envisioned becoming the ruler of a vast impoverished nation with nothing but ashes and char to his name.

Can't imagine that this would have been a pleasant conversation.
If China doesn't perceive this to be to their advantage, I'd expect them to provide very little to nothing, or perhaps not without a 'Belt and Road' hook into Russia.

Russia is going to become China's bitch.
Via 'Belt and Road', quite possibly.

Could also be a drain on China to such an extent as to force them to curb their other international aggressions.

If they have been asking since Feb 24, their request wasn't based on their expectations of these many losses, or so we are told. Given the amount of surplus inventory in Russia (thousands of tanks) they must have known their own equipment was substandard.

Wonder what they are fishing for, fuel trucks, PGM's, getting back the aircraft they have sold to China for many years?

Putin must be furious with the way things are going. Apparently he was unaware of the state his military was in. Heads will roll......hopefully one will be his.

My sense is he has recovered from his shock at the failure to secure Ukraine in three days, and has regained his footing and become the ruthless Stalinist he always been. He will not tolerate losing, and now that he is all in there is no backing out. He probably senses that his window is only several months long, before economic and military pressures will force a humiliating or badly flawed outcome.

Now is the time for NATO to make sure he has no chance. It will require some courageous decision making, some creative solutions, and guts. So far, I haven't seen that kind of "right stuff" in Biden to make that happen.

So if these stories about the Russian army are true, disorganized, logistic problems, soldiers poorly trained, poorly performing, equipment issues and now needing to get equipment from China, what are we afraid of? Shouldn't our intelligence have known about the state of the Russian army? Maybe they were aware and maybe they informed Biden and just like with Afghanistan Biden refused to listen.

I'm not sure Russia's army is in that bad shape. They've taken a good part of the country despite determined resistance. Do not forget that we also are fed propaganda.

NATO has decided. Unless Putin attacks a member, it will stay out on the ground

Putin's army is in bad shape. I suspect he got ripped off, after all Putin's Russia is a kleptocracy. Period.

Nukes, obviously. We have zero fear now of his military. He now knows it. We have had it confirmed.
Russia is as military inept as is its economy.
This makes Putin more dangerous. All he has are nukes to deal with us. NOTHING ELSE.

And our intel has been SPECTACULAR. don't be a Donald

Alternate explanation: Putin sees China backtracking and wavering on their 'friendship' with him and support for his war, and so he's testing their commitment by asking for this equipment which will force them to take a side, and if they give it, will force them more onto his side, not getting to have it both ways. He understands the cynical, selfish game China is playing, letting him pya heavy costs to fight the west while they get the benefit.

Right. That doesn't mean we won't do many other things to fight Putin. I can't think of a time the world has ever shunned a country more than we are shunning Russia right now perhaps outside of WWII.

Whatever legitimate grievance Putin had over Ukraine evaporated with his brutal attack. He is a very unsympathetic "victim"
His economy can not survive

Agreed. It does raise a question - does 'whatever legitimate grievance the US had with Saddam or the Taliban' end with our brutal attacks on those countries? I could ask the same about Vietnam, but we didn't much even have a pretense of 'legitimate grievance' there. A false claim they shot at our destroyer in the Gulf of Tonkin.

Putin can’t be thrilled that the whole world knows this. Come to think of it, I doubt Jinping is super stoked about it either. China was banking on Russia’s success as a model for their own takeover of Taiwan, and this can’t be how they imagined it would go for them.

I’m not a hundred percent sure China wants to hitch its wagon to Putin’s star at this point, but I guess we’ll see.

I don't think they want to hitch up to Russia in any way except to make Russia dependent on their support.

With the overwhelming numbers of men and equipment and air superiority this should have been a three day war. It’s becoming obvious the Russian army is ill trained and disorganized with poor leadership.

If China gives Russia weapons they have crossed a line and we should sanction them too. Biden should be making this very clear.

" A US official stated " and that from a elite/state rag............. must be true and definitely not to be questioned

The same US officials that told everyone about Iraqi WMDs ?, anthrax attacks? , links to AQ?, procurement of nuclear materials?

But hey, it's the West and we don't propagandize

Even better...............

"A US official, speaking on condition of anonymity,"

Why does he have to be anonymous? Is it so that if it turns out he is lying that he won't be held to account for it by any chance ?

It might be true it might be not but do you people unquestioningly run with it regardless of the above
