Threats of this nature cause me to wonder if Putin isn't just a wee bit worried about the consequences of his move into Ukraine. Would the oligarchs support him if he dropped a nuke or two into Europe?

Russia says Finland, Sweden could face consequences if countries move to join NATO

A Russian official on Friday issued a warning to Finland and Sweden should both nations intend to join NATO, saying such moves would have "serious military-political repercussions."

During a news briefing, Russian foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova made the remarks as Russian forces continue to battle the Ukrainian military following an unprovoked invasion into the neighboring country.

"Finland and Sweden should not base their security on damaging the security of other countries and their accession to NATO can have detrimental consequences and face some military and political consequences," she said in a video clip.

Looks like an invitation from NATO's Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg to attend a video conference has upset Putie Boy
Russia Sends Bone-Chilling Message To Sweden & Finland; Threatens ‘Military Implications’ If They Go The Ukraine Way
On Thursday, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg invited Sweden and Finland to attend a NATO virtual summit on the situation in and around Ukraine on Friday. On the same day, Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin said that Finland will be ready to join NATO “if the issue of national security becomes acute.”

I doubt that he would stop at two if he's willing to drop one.

The Finns would be extremely stupid to consider joining NATO now since that is the exact reason why Ukraine was invaded.

And to those that think Finland won the Winter War, you'd be sadly delusional since Finland had been beaten so badly they ended up ceding more territory to Russia than Stalin had initially asked for.

Now why would a country want to join NATO? I can’t think of a single reason. 🤔

Austria Chancellor Karl Nehammer was asked yesterday from a German reporter (FAZ) after the National Security Council meeting about joining NATO, which he didn’t even answer.

Instead he argued that military neutrality as in our case is preferable and we could deploy 🇺🇳 UN 🇺🇳 peace keepers in Ukraine after the dust has settled somewhat. But that’s only possible of course if Russia doesn’t win and annex Ukraine.

And if the Ukraine joined a year ago, it wouldn’t have been invaded.

Tell that to all the Russian troops that are currently residing 6 feet under the soil.

Russia would have invaded last year then.

Didnt matter how many Russians they killed because there were a lot more that just kept on coming. The Finns sitll lost that war. Its fact.

And the Russians could just keep extending..and taking losses, and having their finances ruined.

Kiss Putin some more.

Security matters to the Russians more than finances.

Okay...so let me get this straight:

-Putzin doesn't want Finland and Sweden to join NATO.
-So he goes and threatens them.
-And after seeing what the bastard is doing to Ukraine, guess what Finland and Sweden will end up doing to protect itself: Join NATO.

Talk about stupid counterproductive rhetoric on Putzin's part.

It is the standard psycopathic tactic from Putin. There are just too many psychopaths leading nations in the world right now. Putin is one. Xi is another. Kim Jong-un is a third.

This is clearly NOT a time to muse about NATO membership and disuss it forever. If you are going to do it, do it IMMEDIATELY and present it to Putin as a fait accompli.

There was zero prospect of Ukraine joining NATO anytime soon. Not even on the agenda. Putin invaded to rebuild the Soviet bloc. If Ukraine did anything, it warched across the Polish border as they got better off and strove to catch up. That's the last thing Putin wants on Russia's border.
He wants to recreate Russia's Soviet "glory days" when they were one of the world superpowers with a string of client states between him and Europe, so Russians don't see how he and his kleptocratic oligarchs are keeping them in poverty by robbing them blind..
The Finns aren't worried about the Russian threats, they already have a Russian invasion force on their land, along the border. Six feet deep.

Security matters to the Russians more than finances.

You’re wrong there.

Putin’s protestations about security are noise. Ukraine presents no strategic threat to Russia. Dispite the propoganda and now, the hints about non existent nuclear capability.

Finances are everything.

Ever since the Soviet Union imploded and Ukraine became its own nation again, the Russians have been playing constant cat and mouse games with Kiev over how much Kiev would collect for transmitting Russian oil and gas through their pipelines, which was the only route before Nordstream One was finished.

Nordstream Two was intended to provide enough capacity to allow Moscow to influence the transport price. And also the counter Azerbaijan, which is the other major gas supplier to the Ukrainian pipeline network.

So, yes, in one way, this was yet another war over oil.

If they were a member and he invades article 5 is enacted and NATO goes to war with Russia. This isn't the USSR...

Europe know that. The lesson is crystal clear.

And the result will be a vast acceleration in investment in renewables.

Something that will gradually devalue the value of Russian oil and gas, along with every one else’s.

Putin has been stealing from Russian people for 22 yrs, and Russian People are fully aware of it. Now, he insults them by waging this war, and it will not end well for Putin an Putin's Cronies and Oligarchs.
The people know, they can't arrest the majority of the population and if they mass harm the people they have arrested, it will further infuriate the Russian people.
The Iron Grip Putin thinks he has over the people, may meet a truth and realism that Putin did not expect.

People don't stay hoodwinked forever, the same as we are seeing many Republican backing away from Republicanism and vowing never to support Trumpist madness as they are everyday recogining the damages he and Republicans have done to America. Trump and Republican support for Putin has awakened many Republican and they want nothing more to do with Republicanism.

This madness Putin has engaged, will never be forgotten by the Russian People. They will find a way to dislodge Putin and the Regime that backs him, because what Russian people are confirming, is that the World is not against them, they are against the corruption, brutality and autocratic madness of Russia's Leadership.

The mess Putin has made will be his demise and as more and more Oligarch's lose $Billion upon $Billions they will turn on Putin in the blink of an eye, when they realize they can't weild the power they have in the past and the money they fleeced and stole is no longer assessible to them.

The People of Russia would be far more interested to enjoy the Western World, than to remain an isolated contained people in Eastern European Russia.
China is watching, because he knows if the Russian people overthrow Putin and Democratize their nations, China knows it will send a signal to Chinese People to want to get from under the Autocratic Communism Format of "Xi". It likely will also see Belarus face upheaval to get from under the repressive regime they are current under.

Putin bringing up any conversation about WMD... has infuriated everyone in the Region. Many of the Old Guard from the Soviet are now "Old Men" and their Offsprings know they can't recreate the past.
People should think about how people scurried to claim they never supported Hitler, when the tide turn we will see many people who support Putin, ready to claim they were not Putin supporters.
When people profit behind a autocratic Tyrant, they are happen, until that Autocrat no longer can protect and let them profit off the masses.

Russian people have access to world information, and there is very little that can be done to block out all information, We have a world of nations with master Hackers, that can converge upon Russian Internet in unison.

People should never underestimate the "Good Within People' and the Power of That Good.

Just as we saw the Anti War Sentiment regarding Vietnam, we saw it regarding the Iraq war and we will see it spread regarding Putin's War.

The German conquest of Czechoslovakia after the Munich deal had shown what happened to countries that gave up some of their territory to foreign aggressor without a fight. There also the intent of the Soviet invasion in 1939 was likely to make Finland into a Soviet puppet state. There Finland there able to keep their freedom even if they lost more of their territory than what Soviet original demanded.
