"Russia" plans to shut its Northern Sea Route to foreign vessels ( including USA:s) / Freedom of the

Its goes against very fundamental principals of USA. so will Trump stand for Freedom of the seas, or he is incapable to challenge grandpa vova putler?

"Russia is moving towards blocking ships under a foreign flag from sailing in the Northern Sea Route
in its exclusive economic zone as the country seeks to boost profits from potential oil and gas extraction in its arctic region.

Such a monopoly could pay off in the Northern Sea Route, the shortest shipping route from Europe to the Pacific Ocean, but only if the Arctic region of Russia emerges as a major oil and gas hub, according to industry experts."

Surely they received China's permission first. I note that they already have something like 14 ice breakers and are building a bunch more, this comes as no shock.

"After losing the Opium Wars, the Qing dynasty was forced to sign a series of treaties that gave away land and ports to the European powers; these were known as the Unequal Treaties. Starting with the Treaty of Aigun in 1858 and the Treaty of Peking in 1860, the Sino–Russian border was realigned in Russia's favor along the Amur and Ussuri rivers. As a result, China lost Outer Manchuria, and access to the Sea of Japan. "

Based on the info above, transitioning to renewable energy augurs to make that route grow increasingly irrelevant....All the more reason, IMO, for the remaining European nations to hasten their transition to renewable energy. The sooner that happens, the sooner fossil fuels become essential only for military purposes, which will result in a huge drop in the commercial trade value of the Northern Sea Route. It also alters the militarily strategic management of that route and the surrounding areas.

Folks need to learn up on how the New Chinese Empire operates...the days where all who paid the published fee get access are ending....China hands out permits based upon how good of a friend you are to China, and sometimes too what you have to trade for access
