Ukraine maternity hospital 'destroyed' by Russian shelling

President Volodymyr Zelensky said children were under the wreckage, and called on Western leaders to impose a no-fly zone.

He also posted footage apparently from inside the hospital, which appears badly damaged.

There is no information yet on casualties, or on who was inside the hospital at the time.

The Mariupol city council said the strike had caused "colossal damage", and published footage showing burned out buildings, destroyed cars and a huge crater outside the hospital. The BBC has verified the location of the videos.

Mariupol has been surrounded by Russian forces for several days, and repeated attempts at a ceasefire to allow civilians to leave have broken down.

"The whole city remains without electricity, water, food, whatever and people are dying because of dehydration," Olena Stokoz of Ukraine's Red Cross told the BBC, adding that her organisation would continue trying to organise an evacuation corridor.

Earlier Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said "almost 3,000 newborn babies lack medicine and food" in Mariupol, and that Russia continued to hold more than 400,000 people "hostage".

Russia insists that it does not target civilian infrastructure in Ukraine.

But people and children are dying because of lack of water.

Putin has achieved pariah status, and is the enemy of freedom and democracy, and human decency.

Anyone who supports Putin, therefore, is also an enemy of freedom, democracy and human decency.

Those who bellyached that mask mandates were an 'attack on freedom', how do those cries sound, now, against the backdrop of Russian state sponsored terrorism, starving, bombing, children, where real freedoms are being attacked?

They ring hollow.

“Oh, that’s wonderful. … I said, ‘How smart is that?’ And he’s going to go in and be a peacekeeper. That’s strongest peace force. … We could use that on our southern border. That’s the strongest peace force I’ve ever seen. There were more army tanks than I’ve ever seen. They’re going to keep the peace all right. Here’s a guy who’s very savvy … I know him very well. Very, very well.”

Thinking someone is clever and supporting that person's aims are two very different things. In 1940 or 41 many of those who hated Hitler feared he would turn out to be a military genius.

Trump did both.

Tony 🌊 #DemVoice1 on Twitter: "Laura Ingraham, of right-wing Rupert Murdoch's Fox News, interviewed Trump on her show, and he praised Putin's invasion as “genius". Trump said that Russia invading Ukraine happened

There are serious doubts Russia will invade Ukraine. Wars are very costly, and Ukraine has a respectable, battle hardened military which outnumbers the Russian strike force, and she will get military assistance from NATO. If she invades, the sanctions placed on Russia and Russian leaders by the NATO countries will likely be more costly than the war itself.
If the attacking force is outnumbered by the defending force, it would be disastrous for the aggressor. That is Military Strategy 101.
If Putin invades Ukraine, it would be the Soviet/Afghan War all over again, and with it, the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Now we can add Ukraine's citizens to the Ukrainian defense force , men, women, and teenagers who refuse to submit to Russian oppression. It is rapidly becoming self-evident that Putin will not be allowed to successfully occupy Ukraine. His army isn't big enough.

“We assess Moscow underestimated the strength of Ukraine’s resistance and the degree of internal military challenges we are observing which include an ill-constructed plan, morale issues and considerable logistical issues,” Avril Haines, director of national intelligence, said before the House Intelligence Committee. CNBC provided this statement.

Strange Putin didn't know this or was he blinded by an obsession? Putin may still win this war, but what exactly will he win and at what cost to the Rodina? Will the Russian people, oligarchs, and military leaders acept that cost?

“We assess Putin feels aggrieved the West does not give him proper deference and perceives this as a war he cannot afford to lose,” added Haines, who leads America’s 18 intelligence agencies.

A Pyrrhic victory is a victory that is not worth winning because so much is lost to achieve it.

Know any more good lies? Always amusing to read them.
Trump praised Putin and said the following about Ukraine: “ when you see the riots in the country… ok we’ll go in and take it over, you have to give him a lot of credit,” and “the people of Crimea, from what I have heard, would rather be with Russia,” and “ Russia’s not in Ukraine.”

Face facts. Trump both praised Putin and endorsed his aims as I said. And “Putin (Hitler) acted with the same pretext: they’re harming Russians (Germans) in Ukraine (Poland).
