This is like Twilight Zone.

Russia passed a law that prohibits the propaganda of gay lifestyle.

Russia has passed a new law banning gay “propaganda” – a catch-all that prohibits gay pride events and providing information to minors on “non-traditional” relationships, and exposes those who express pro-gay views to prosecution. Foreigners can be hit with fines of about $3,000, and 15 days in a Russian jail.

Various protests and criticisms came from so-called democratic countries. They denounced Russia.

There was another news not too long ago....UK arrested a man for stating, homosexuality is a sin.

Tony Miano, a retired deputy sheriff and former chaplain with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept., was arrested in London and interrogated about his Christian beliefs by police, Fox News' Todd Starnes reported Monday. Miano's crime? He publicly stated that homosexuality is a sin, allegedly distressing some of the passers-by.
The actual charge, according to Starnes, was “using homophobic speech that could cause people anxiety, distress, alarm or insult.”

Where are the protests and criticisms from so-called democratic countries?

On one hand I can understand how Russia is trying to protect its youth from getting confused and corrupted.
Where do you draw the line?
We see it now in our public systems - they're practically ramming the propaganda for gay lifestyles down our throats, including teaching children about anal intercourse, masturbation using vegetables etc.., (in Canada).
Never mind causing distress, alarm and insults to parents of these children who hold a different sets of values!

Both countries practically ignored the freedom of free speech and expression.
At least Russia has a valid reason for it, imo!

Gosh, the ignorance continues. It doesn't affect you so why do you care? There is nothing wrong with expressing who you love, no matter it be a man or a woman.

No that is pure bull****.

Well, damn.

*crosses Russia from list of countries to visit*

Don't do that. It really is an interesting place. Standing inside St. Basil's is truly transcendent.

At freedom to live your life according to your choices and who you are.

Straight people also have anal intercourse and masturbate. Try again.

So you're not disturbed by free speech being trampled upon as long as you agree with the speech? Sieg Heil!

according to christian teachings heteros shouldnt have sex outside of marriage either but these religious christians ignore it and just focus on gays

Seems pretty clear. WHO CARES. Let them do whatever they feel.

And there's nothing wrong with expressing opposition to the idea either.

Both cases are representative of authoritarian governments going to extreme measures in order to quash freedom of expression.

I'm fine with individuals being against it, but when they are advocating the government do the same, That's when I take issue. And I do agree the UK went too far.

I'm sure it's lovely. I'm still not going to a place where I can be jailed for having "pro-gay views".

Just don't go on any gay pride parades and you'll be fine. I have pro-gay views, but nobody asked me about them. Though we did almost get in trouble for taking pictures of mural of Lenin in the Nizhny Novgorod train station.

I know. It's just the principle of it. Kind of like I'm not going to any Muslim countries where I might be jailed for getting raped, no matter how many touristic attractions they may have.

The message of the OP is not whether homosexuality is a sin or not......it is about the freedom of expression.

All so-called democratic countries that denounced/criticised Russia for its new law, and yet remained mum about UK's authoritarian stance are being blatantly hypocritical. It is a double standard!

UK reacted along the same line as the Taliban (or any other dictatorial government) would've reacted - had anyone stood in the square and proclaimed their non-Islamic religious belief or protest to the government!
All it took was for someone to complain that they are "insulted," or "distressed" by the message! If that's the case, well some are distressed by all the violence they read or see in the news, and they feel insulted when they're called names like, "bigots" or "gay-haters!"

Any message could be distressing or insulting to anyone!

So, between Russia and UK on this issue - I see that Russia has a valid reason for its law whereas UK plays with the law - which is alarming when it is done by a prominent so-called democratic nation like UK - and being supported or abetted by other so-called democratic countries!

If you're going to criticise Russia for violating freedom of expression - then you have to do the same to UK.

Sexuality is a private thing. Was it Trudeau who'd said that the government has no business in our bedroom?
So, what's with all this propaganda about gay sex - especially targeting our youth?

Thus, I see where Russia is coming from. I don't know whether their law is motivated by hate for gays (that is what mainstream media seems to be saying) - but the reason they gave for passing this law seems right. They're saying:

What you do in your bedroom is your business! Don't mess with our kids.

Do you have examples of this propaganda?

No bull. Why this sudden pre-occupation with sex "instructions" directed towards our youth, I wonder?
Could it be a concerted systematic effort to brainwash our children to think all kinds of sexual practices as normal and acceptable?

Do we need to go to that extent?

Toronto school board web link offers kinky sex advice
Toronto Sun
“Most of us learn that our bodies, and our sex, are things to be ashamed of,” states the link. “Most of us learn that sex means a man on top of a woman, and that the only other choice is abstinence. But sex can be lots of things ... women have sex with women, men have sex with men, women have sex with men — and sometimes the best sex is with yourself!”
It describes how an individual “could suck, kiss, touch, bite, fondle, nibble, squeeze and lick someone’s body, nipples, calves, toes, neck” and other areas. It talks of masturbation in front of the mirror, acting out fantasies and using sex toys.
“Play with your own or someone else’s a-- or vagina, put your fingers, dildoes, vegetables, or butt plugs into them,” is what it states.

Wade Vroom, Back In Class After Displaying Graphic Sex Posters, Under Investigation By Police

Toronto District School Board (TDSB) teacher Wade Vroom, who was cleared to return to work this week after displaying a sexually explicit brochure in his Grade 7 and 8 classrooms, is being investigated by Toronto Police, according to the Toronto Sun.

A teacher at Delta Alternative School, Vroom was suspended with pay and ordered to work from home pending an investigation after the school received a complaint that he put up an explicit posters created by the AIDS Committee of Toronto (ACT). One poster, titled “Use Your Head When Giving It: Blow Job Tips,” was displayed on the classroom bulletin board in October. The poster was removed after the Sun contacted the TDSB on the same day Vroom was sent home.

Canada’s Science and Technology Museum has abruptly raised the age limit for a controversial sex exhibit after Heritage Minister James Moore's office raised concerns and more than 50 individuals complained.

In an open letter to the Heritage Minister, Dave Quist, the Institute’s executive director, said the exhibit approves and promotes anal sex, multiple partners and sex without emotional and marital commitment.
“Surely these topics are not a part of the mandate of the CMST [Canadian Museum of Science and Technology],” Quist wrote. “This exhibit includes what can only be described as soft pornography, expressly designed for youth in the context of a museum.”

After going through a long list of the exhibit’s features which the Institute found objectionable, including an area where visitors are encouraged to isolate erogenous zones on foam bodies and a section where the words “*****, snatch, bush” and “prick, ****, dick” are mentioned, Quist asked for the whole thing to be shut down.
The exhibit, which touches on STIs and homosexuality, also includes graphic images, such as nude photos of real-life models and a video on how to use condoms that uses a drawing of an anatomically-correct penis. But the area is tucked away so that parents with small children won’t be shocked by nudity on their way to visit the museum's well-loved trains.

St-Onge acknowledged he was puzzled as to why the exhibit is causing such controversy since displays in Montreal and Regina went off without a hitch.

The material in the link off of the school board page isn't being taught in schools (or at least it's not part of official curriculum...obviously individuals are individuals)...though I don't find anything offensive about the things described.

The school board shouldn't be having any links like that!

Might as well get in the porno business....so they don't have to be funded by us taxpayers!

Or better yet....why not get the link to an escort service.........for some "hands-on" instructions.
<nudge-nudge, wink-wink>

As far as I could tell it was just words about things people actually do.

So are porno magazines.....why don't taxpayers just commissioned porno publishers to provide the instructional picture books?

The background on this is that Putin and his supporters have become alarmed about Russia's low birth rate. Their population is shrinking, and they see that as a threat to their national integrity. They are going to oppose anything that might interfere with fertility. They are also increasingly restricting abortions.

This might drive Russia away from the West and into the arms of the Muslims. Putin is already referring to the West as deviant and decadent because of these issues.
