who and why has killed Sergun in Lebanon?

"MOSCOW, December 18. /TASS/. Russia’s Defense Ministry refuted media reports about the death of Director of Russia’s GRU military intelligence service Igor Sergun in January 2016 in Lebanon, calling this "conspiracy nonsense."

"The rumors, disseminated at the suggestion of the US Justice Department, that Hero of Russia Col. Gen. Igor Dmitrievich Sergun died on January 3, 2016 while in Lebanon are conspiracy nonsense. Igor Dmitrievich was in Russia in January 2016," the ministry said.

Director of Russian Military Intelligence Igor Dmitrievich Sergun [supposedly] died on 3 January 2016 (58) in Moscow of "acute heart failure" according to the Russian government. Putin was known to praise Sergun/GRU accomplishments in regards to the Crimea operation and the subsequent GRU operations in eastern Ukraine.

Former Trump National Security Advisor Michael Flynn told the FBI (Robert Mueller) that Sergun actually had died in Lebanon. Flynn had met with Sergun once in 2013, and also talked with him once via video-call. The American intelligence/analytical company Stratfor also reported that Sergun died on January 1 in Lebanon.

Sergun's successor, Igor Korobov (62), reportedly died on 21 November 2018 of cancer. It was well known for quite a while that he was ill. In contrast to Sergun, Putin was not happy with Korobov at all and accused the GRU of not being prepared for the age of data journalism and citizen detectives (The Insider/Bellingcat). There were a number of major GRU snafu's under the Korobov administration. His deputy, Igor Kostyukov, has been in [temporary] charge of the GRU since the death of Korobov.

Report: Russia's military intelligence chief killed in secret operation in Lebanon
The Kremlin announced the death of Sergun on January 4, saying that he died in Moscow after a heart attack.
The Head of Russia's military intelligence service, Colonel-General Igor Sergun, was killed in January during a secret mission in the Lebanon's capital, Beirut, the Lebanese daily newspaper al-Akhbar reported Thursday.

The Kremlin announced the death of Sergun on January 4, saying that he died in Moscow after a heart attack. The military intelligence chief played a key role in the Russian seizure of Crimea in March 2014, and reportedly died three weeks after he was sent to Syria by Russian President Vladimir Putin to demand Syrian President Bashar Assad step aside.

However, according to a diplomatic source in London quoted by al-Akhbar, Sergun was killed in a complicated secret mission that several Arab and Middle Eastern intelligence agencies took part it.
