Republicans are preparing a border security amendment to the bipartisan Senate immigration bill and plan to release it as early as next week.Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., who has been helping draft the amendment behind the scenes, told a radio host Thursday that it would tighten border security language in the bill (S 744) in order to win the support of Republican senators.

As it stands now, the bill would require the Department of Homeland Security to prepare a plan to secure the border and apprehend 90 percent of border crossers in three of the nine southern border sectors. The plan must be in place before immigrants living in the country illegally can become legal permanent residents.
Republicans have said the current bill is too weak because it would not call on the government to show results before undocumented immigrants are legalized. They also complain that it would give too much discretion to the Department of Homeland Security to assess when the border is secure. Rubio said senators have spoken with border patrol agents and will incorporate some of their ideas into the amendment.

Is the border gonna get a lot more militarized? Probably. I dont think no matter how much we want "to secure" the border i dont think it will make munch of a difference. Its gonna be close to impossible to "secure" our vast border to the south and the north and just in general all over.

Rubio has been on a big campaign to sell the Gang of Eight amnesty bill and in his various appearances, he has not provided direct or satisfactory answers to questions, nor has he sounded confident in what he is trying to sell.

Perhaps Americans would be more accepting of the various amnesty plans if Rubio or some politician or anyone else, would explain the benefit to America and Americans of jamming America into a semi-Mexican country and culture.

The Mexicans have been allowed to colonize the United States, with the support of our politicians, but no one knows why and it is even more difficult to see anything but negatives in the overwhelming presence of this culturally different ethnic group.

Certainly it would have been a more appropriate and smoother transition if the American people had been allowed to vote on whether or not they wanted their unique culture irreversibly transformed to this extent by a foreign people strikingly different from us.

Rubio might regain some of his credibility if he would address these issues to the satisfaction of the American people since he is the one pushing for more change of this nature.

For Americans to simply ask "Why?" seems logical enough, but Rubio isn't addressing that question. Why can't we just say "NO?" No more immigration from Mexico, no amnesty for people here illegally.

Rubio is doing his best to give the impression that he wants to secure the borders while at the same time he wants open borders and amnesty for all the illegals. His act is becoming strange and annoying.

Amnesty means guarunteed citizenship.

Rubio's plan doesn't guaruntee citizenship to anyone. Only a path to citizenship that they can easily **** up.

Like it or not, the answer of "Deport the illegals" is essentially "Death to the Career" of any politician that tries. You may not like it and I may not like it, but that is the truth. Sorry, but deportation is not an option because NO POLITICIAN will do it and have enough support to do it.

So what are we left with? Either keep it the same, or try to make the illegals, somehow legal. That is what Rubio and others are trying to do. Again, Deportation will NOT gain any support for a politician's career. This is simply fact right now.

The Tea Party Occupied House will not pass the immigration bill. The rightwing noise machine won't let them. The tea party types have an electoral death wish, and they will fulfill it. Bye bye GOP.

I do not want amnesty period because extra border security and any other enforcement provisions can be yanked at any time. Those who get amnesty won't have their legal status yanked.

I wonder which taxes Rubio plans to raise in order to pay for it.

It is also a fact that the GOP has painted itself into a corner and the only way out is to knock down a wall. Which wall is now the only question. But no matter what, it is going to make a mess. The Far Right may have too much influence...we will see. Rubio is toast either way though. It could not have happened to a nicer hack.

The American people have been lied too since 1986 with the total of seven amnesties and each time we were told the borders would be secured. No more lies !

And is there anyone who actually thinks that Obama would secure the borders ? :2rofll:

Is there any evidence that if Obama did try to secure the borders that he's capable and competent enough to do it ? :2rofll:

It's going to take more than a second rate executive administration to secure our borders and enforce our laws.

Lemme guess, you were duped into thinking Romney would do any better with the borders? :lamo

I'm sure the first thing Romney would have done was appoint a competent Secretary of Homeland Security and I seriously doubt the DOJ, DHS or the IRS would become politicized under the Romney administration.

The Obama administration has an agenda and securing the borders would jeopardize that agenda.

Now where was exactly Sheriff Joe Arpaio going to fit in the Romney administration ? Was it Director if ICE ?

So inchoate.

Yeah, giving citizenship to millions of low income,6th grade educated people is the key for a GOP renaissance.

To all the stupid libbies here on this thread, count the number of illegals sent packing by your boy Oblabla versus GWB, then shut up.

"Inchoate". I think you need a thesaurus ("incoherent"?)

In any case, it's clear the Tea Party Occupations Forces in the House will never pass the bill. It's going to be fun watching the GOP talking heads squirm as the next election cycle goes down the tubes for them.

Yep, keep bashing hard working immigrants. It's what will ultimately destroy the GOP, along with its general stupidity and truckling attitude toward the rich.

Psst: Obama sent back those that were involved in crime (a small number but important to send those criminals to justice).

But you're right -- Bush was too inept to tell the difference.

Keep dancing -- all they way to electoral irrelevancy!

I think you need to read something more than the DNC talking points for the day.
