This is probably one of the best known UFO case, where a farmer in New Mexico discovered the crash of a UFO, which was later claimed to be a weather balloon. The balloon was used for Project Mongul. This project was a spy program, where they used spy equipment to spy on the USSR. However, this begs one simple question. Why would the government use something like a balloon, which is at the mercy of the winds, to spy on the USSR? Not to mention at the time they had the U2 spy jets.

Anyways, that faithful day, Roswell was forever change, and it's now the UFO Mecca of the United States. What did happen here though, and is the government still covering up the true nature of the crash?

Well according to Senator Strom Thurmond we should accept Major Phillip J. Corso's account of what happened as it is laid out in his book The Day After Roswell. Thurmond wrote a very nice intro to the book put apparently someone pitched a fit and made him retract his intro so it only appears in early additions of the book. :rofl
