Former U.S. Rep. Ron Paul says that after more than a decade of war in the Middle East, the United States has learned absolutely nothing.

“For years, many of us had argued the need to get out of Afghanistan,” the Texas Republican writes. “We cannot leave, we were told for all those years. If we leave Afghanistan now, the Taliban will come back! Well guess what, after 12 years, trillions of dollars, more than 2,200 Americans killed, and perhaps more than 50,000 dead Afghan civilians and fighters, the Taliban is coming back anyway!

“We left Iraq after a decade of fighting, and the country is in far worse shape than when we attacked in 2003,” he continued. “After trillions of dollars wasted and tens of thousands of lives lost, Iraq is a devastated, desperate and violent place with a presence of al Qaeda. No one in his right mind speaks of a U.S. victory in Iraq these days. We learned nothing from it.”

I agree with you Mr.Paul! Our interventionist foreign policy has done little to nothing but destroyed countries, lost American lives, and has generally failed. I think its about time we move away from these failed policies

Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Such is Ron Paul.

I agree with Mr. Paul. These wars have been a bad investment for us. So many lives lost, so many newly disabled soldiers to support for the rest of their lives, so much convict within or own country and nobody profited except Haliburton, Blackwater and the like.

I don't advocate isolationism but these ME wars are just stupid. Let them kill each other off. Every time I see a picture of some legless American coming home, I weep.

I seem to hear Guns and Roses "Civil War" playing.....

well ron paul is right, weve mismanaged wars in the middle east.

we had no business being in iraq, and afghanistan could have been handled much better.

in afghanistan,we shouldnt have had a lengthy campaign,we should have came in and toppled taliban and alquaeda leadership, and let the northern alliance take control.iran russia tajikistan and india all backed the northern alliance and opposed the taliban and alquaeda pre our invasion, while the taliban was backed by al quaeda and pakistan.the northern alliance was made up of many former members of the afghan govt pre russian invasion, and was sworn enemies of the taliban.

i see no reason why we couldnt have sent troops in to kick ass, then shortly after turn it over to the northern alliance, since they helped us early war, unless it was because the northern alliance wouldnt conform to us policy, much like saddam wouldnt.

Ron Paul is sort of like a 5 year old. Most of the time he is spouting crap that is stupid and inane. On occasion he spits out something that is moderately insightful that shows you there might actually be a working brain somewhere in that mixed op pile of short circuits that makes up his brain. Too bad for him 5 year olds grow smarter and he is just going to lose more and more of his warped and twisted mind with age.

Ron Paul Predicts Housing Bubble 5 Years Before it Burst - YouTube

Listen to his exact words, and take note of when he said them. He was insightful, he was precise, he was 100% right, and if he was listened to then billions upon billions of dollars (as well as countless jobs) could have been saved. Ron Paul is many things, but he's no stopped clock.

Wow, how prophetic that Ron was wringing his hands about Freddie and Fannie during debate about GSE reform. if only GSE reform in 2003 was about lending standards and if only GSEs had caused the Bush Mortgage Bubble and if only Bush had not stopped GSE reform and then maybe you could claim Ron was actually prophetic about the Bush Mortgage Bubble. But he wasn’t.

This is an example of someone accurately predicting the Bush mortgage bubble. This is the Conference of State Bank Supervisors criticizing the Bush policy of protecting predatory lenders.

"
Concentrating regulatory control at the OCC ensures that regulatory and consumer protection problems that emerge will be solved with a one-size fits all approach," CSBS President and CEO Neil Milner wrote in his comment letter, adding that the proposed rule would concentrate regulatory power in the hands of a single individual, the Comptroller, with virtually no direct congressional oversight until problems or scandals emerge.
"

States Unite to Fight Sweeping OCC Preemption

And please cons, stop lumping Afghanstan in the same category as Iraq. Afghanistan aided and abetted al qaeda. Irag did not. We didn’t have to lie to the world to get them to support our involvement in Afghanistan. And thanks to Bush’s Day 1 agenda to invade Iraq, he under resourced the effort in Afghanistan thus handing the country back to the Taliban and al qaeda. Looking at troop levels, you’d think iraq attacked us on 9-11. Can you believe some cons still believe that?

Eh no Ron Paul is WRONG. These are completely different scenarios!! Syria is on the brink of a civil war, while the same was going on in Iraq, we went in there for other reasons than to help a civil war. We also chose the right side in the Iraq war. Ourselves!!! Is helping the Al Qaeda's really in our best interest?

And those willing to ignore history for political expediency are condemned to repeat it. It's a catchy phrase to say "no intervention" Afterall no one wants to pay for, few want to do it, and being for "peace" is so easy. All one has to do is put their head in the sand and wait for some radical to come cut it off.

We ignored Germany after WWI and 10 million people paid for it. We ignored radical islam for the better part of two decades and 3000 Americans paid for it. Yeah let's just sit back and sing songs and hope everyone will love us.

We've been ignoring Radical Islam ever since the founding of this country, but I think you wanted to paint this as a picture for the modern times.

How's that "war on terror" going?
