Ron Paul Posts Criticism of Censorship ... Shortly Before Facebook Blocks Him

\

Facebook says it was an error....that they got caught blocking someone who didn't deserve it.
Somewhat akin to a politician apologizing for getting caught. If no one complained (freedom of speech) Paul most likely would still have been blocked.

I am using FaceBook and Twitter only to ridicule FaceBook as totalitarian twentysomething power hungry jerks, and shame those who are still on it, and posting that I am doing what O can to make FB as popular today as MySpace.
how is that working out for you?

Facebook can do whatever Facebook wants to do. I do not own it. The government does not own it.

Anyone who has a problem with FaceBook's efforts to battle lies, misinformation, hate speech, or posting cute puppy-dog pictures, I encourage them to make their protests known by cancelling their FaceBook accounts.

I know my FB page would be much better off if they did.

I personally don't use it. Had a brief posting there - it's very hard to get off of - so the account now is simply not used. I was at least able to get it disabled. I think I may have to get a techy to actually abolish the account, which I've wanted to do for years. I don't respect Facebook or Twitter. This article explores the percentage of people globally that mistrust government, news media and social media. The percentage of those having faith in social media has dropped to a mere 35 percent. Thanks!!

You won't be able to delete your Facebook data without breaking the law and having someone hack into their system. They own the data, not you.

LMAO.... There are very, very few twenty somethings on facebook... You've beem "Left Behind".. :ROFLMAO:

My first thought on reading the OP is this will probably be resolved quickly and it appears it has.

To the extent there is overreach in the coming days it will get sorted out; a little overbreadth IMO is completely acceptable following the first time in American history terrorists tried to prevent the legitimate transfer of power. There are always going to be mistakes and problems, the important thing is that they be fixed and if necessary and appropriate compensation paid.

I am much more worried about people being mistakenly added to no-fly lists or prosecuted just for being in a crowd and not supporting the actual violence or breaking into the Capitol than I am about Ron Paul's Facebook page being restricted for a few hours.

Not ON Facebook. WORKING for them as mini Totalitarians. You know, brown shirts.

Leftists are trying to start a civil war. Why would you ban Ron Paul.......

I dont think you understand how this works. If leftist bans everyone simply posting a Trump qoute then republicans are gonna march on state capitols all accross the US. Leftists are banning MILLIONS of people from social media right now for posting qoutes or copies to speaches or even just for posting a Trump picture.

Well, your point is well taken, but I don't think it's an either/or situation. Facebook is a parasite. It operates like a voyeur, peering into people's lives to tailor a narrative personal to them. The whole point is to lure individuals into virtual shops so they buy some junk or instill anxiety to promote services or structure "facts" with a manipulated political framework. Then it spies on friends and relatives. It's truly a repugnant entity. Thanks!!

Time for MySpace to make a comeback
lol

Tbh...I liked MySpace more because you could personalize your wall and pick out music to play, ect. But everyone went to Facebook for some reason.

I trust him when he says, "Never have we received notice of violating community standards in the past and nowhere is the offending post identified.”

Partly because of who he is, partly because he has no reason to lie, and partly because I've seen this same claim made by several other trustworthy men. The timing can't be discounted either.

What does it tell you if Facebook is unwilling to specify which "community standard" is being violated, and which content is violating it?

Plain old nasty censorship! It's stunning to see so many approve of this because people that are getting censored have a different viewpoint!
This is not the United States that I know.

Well if there's ever a time for it to be popular again, it's during this Twitter/Facebook brouhaha.

This scares me to death. This is Ron Paul, the consummate libertarian, being axed for criticism of--of all things--an epidemic of censorship.

Via blogger Jonathan Turley (bold by me):
Now former Texas congressman Ron Paul, 85, has been blocked from using his Facebook page for unspecified violations of “community standards.” Paul’s last posting was linked to an article on the “shocking” increase of censorship on social media. Facebook then proceeded to block him under the same undefined “community standards” policy.
Paul, a libertarian leader and former presidential candidate, has been an outspoken critics of foreign wars and an advocate for civil liberties for decades. He wrote:
“With no explanation other than ‘repeatedly going against our community standards,’ @Facebook has blocked me from managing my page. Never have we received notice of violating community standards in the past and nowhere is the offending post identified.
His son is Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) tweeted, “Facebook now considers advocating for liberty to be sedition. Where will it end?”
Even before the riot, Democrats were calling for blacklists and retaliation against anyone deemed to be “complicit” with the Trump Administration. We have been discussing the rising threats against Trump supporters, lawyers, and officials in recent weeks from Democratic members are calling for blacklists to the Lincoln Project leading a a national effort to harass and abuse any lawyers representing the Republican party or President Trump. Others are calling for banning those “complicit” from college campuses while still others are demanding a “Truth and Reconciliation Commission” to “hold Trump and his enablers accountable for the crimes they have committed.” Daily Beast editor-at-large Rick Wilson has added his own call for “humiliation,” “incarceration” and even ritualistic suicides for Trump supporters in an unhinged, vulgar column.
After the riots, the big tech companies moved to ban and block sites and individuals, including Parler which is the primary alternative to Twitter. Also, a top Forbes editor Randall Lane warned any company that they will be investigated if they hire any former Trump officials.
Also (ibid.):

The riots are being used as a license to rollback on free speech and retaliate against conservatives. In the meantime, the silence of academics and many in the media is deafening. Many of those who have spoken for years about the dark period of McCarthyism and blacklisting are either supporting this censorship or remaining silent in the face of it.
Please don't let this be you.

SMH.... Unbelievable.

"Good stuff" in the sense that these abuses need to be reported on, or in the sense that you approve of them?
Facebook can do whatever it wants... instead of crying about it perhaps Rand/Ran Paul could just chill a bit and chat. FB was invented to be a social platform where people can gossip, hook up and talk about their mundane boring lives like how drunk they got and what they had to eat at TGIF last night, catching up with high school friends or talking about how hot some person is in their Bio class and if they are dating anybody.

I post pictures of my dogs.

Trigger-happy censor is my guess.

Happens a lot, unfortunately.

I'm glad they rectified it so quickly.

I suppose this thread can be about the rest of the McCarthyism laid out in the OP.
if these guys are so concerned about "censorship" then maybe they should start their own multi-media platform where people will never ever be banned for anything that they say or do... right?

LMAO.... There are very, very few twenty somethings on facebook... You've beem "Left Behind".. :ROFLMAO:

25-24 is the largest user group, followed by 18-24.

Weird, I would of assumed he would of been more than supportive of the right of a business to decide who the serve.

Oh well looky here

"Yeah, but I wouldn't vote against getting rid of the Jim Crow laws," Paul said. He explained that he would have opposed the Civil Rights Act "because of the property rights element, not because they got rid of the Jim Crow laws."
I guess access to facebook for breaking terms of service is a much bigger deal than a no coloreds sign

The irony here being that you're still using these platforms and a part of their user demographics which they use to target ads and make money. You can continue posting how much they suck, but you're still making them money.

Many of those who have spoken for years about the dark period of McCarthyism and blacklisting are either supporting this censorship or remaining silent in the face of it.

What do you think we would have done to communist sympathizers during the Cold War had they rioted, ransacked the Senate chambers, and attempted a coup against our government that resulted in the deaths of 5 U.S. citizens?

Censorship would have been the least of their worries.
