A Republican lawmaker called the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the nationwide right to abortion established nearly 50 years ago in Roe v. Wade a “victory for white life,” which was met with cheers by crowds at a rally held by former president Donald Trump.

“President Trump, on behalf of all the MAGA patriots in America, I want to thank you for the historic victory for white life in the Supreme Court yesterday,” Rep. Mary E. Miller (R) said at the rally Saturday night in Mendon, Ill., referring to Trump’s former campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again.”

She began clapping her hands as spectators, some clutching red “Save America” placards, also began to applaud.

Of course, Ms. Miller's spokesperson said she misread her speech. Maybe, even possibly. But the Trump crowd ate it up and applauded.

And maybe it wasn't a slip-up, because last year she quoted Hitler in a speech,

This is not the first time Miller has been scrutinized for comments in her speeches. Last year, she was forced to apologize after quoting Adolf Hitler at a “Moms for America” event in Washington.

“Hitler was right on one thing. He said, ‘Whoever has the youth has the future,’” Miller said during the rally, just two days after she was sworn in as a House member, leading to calls for her resignation on social media and from Democrats.

There are so many things reported in that article that are so deeply disturbing that I am speechless.

What a bullshit excuse. How do you misread a speech to insert the word white before life?

Moreover, let's say that you are about to address a crowd and that is how you are introduced. Anyone with a shred of decency would be absolutely mortified and immediately say something about it.

As was pointed out in the opening post, she quoted Hitler before in a speech. One thing that Trump has made clear to the world is that there are some despicable Republicans in Washington. In fact, I think it is fair to say at this point that the majority of the Republicans in congress are utterly reprehensible people. Let's not forget that just hours after the events of January 6th, a majority of Republicans in Washington voted to not certify the election. Let's not forget that to this day, a majority of Republicans in congress are still solidly with Trump. They are reprehensible people that are only concerned with power.

Hilary Clinton is owed a major apology by anyone who criticized her for her deplorables comment (myself included).

I saw the video. I think she did just goof the line. So much real nastiness from DT and his cultists, no need to post iffy stuff.

Here is the thing, there will be no consequences for this racist. She will keep her committee seats. She will almost certainly be reelected.

In today's Republican party, you can speak at white supremacist rally and face no consequences at all. In today's Republican party you can quote Hitler in a speech or talk about "victories for white life" and face no consequences at all. However, if you speak the truth about Trump, you are done. If your oath to the constitution means anything to you, you are done, there is no place in today's Republican party for you.

If these people could read what history books will say about them one day, they would be ashamed, well that is if they were capable of shame.

Freudian slip or not, she goofed the line. Be reasonable, please.

“Hitler was right on one thing. He said, ‘Whoever has the youth has the future,’
It’s not like she said Hitler was right about a lot of things. I don’t know the context of why she brought up Hitler but what she quoted doesn’t seem bad to me. That being said, where there is smoke there is fire. She clearly has racism on the mind.

Agree. She just fumbled the words. According to her staff the speech said "right to life". Her saying white life didn't even make sense in the context of the sentence.

Miller can/should be ostracized for supporting and embracing Donald Trump. Am all good with that. But when trivial events like this one are distorted and blown out of proportion it just undermines valid discussions.

..

I cannot nor shall I speak for Republicans in general. No one can, as there is a range of beliefs within that group, as there is within any group. I can, however, present for your information the Texas Republican Party platform for 2022. This is a document which has been drafted and been approved by the Texas Republican Party process. It contains no slips of the pen.

The full document is available at: https://texasgop.org/wp-content/upl...Platform-Committee-FINAL-REPORT-6-16-2022.pdf

Though there is much of interest in the document, I wish to bring to your attention lines 127-8, Section 19.d. It reads: "Support restoring state sovereignty with the repeal of the 17th Amendment of the United States Constitution and the appointment of United States Senators by the state legislatures." This directly and unambiguously eliminates direct election by we, the people, of our federal Senators. It is difficult to ascribe any motive to this other than the aggrandizement of the Republican Party at the expense of American democracy.

Regards, stay safe 'n well.

Slowly but surely the masks are coming off. The New Republican Party is happy being openly racist and bigoted. They embrace being the party of straight white men and a few sellout women. Which I think is good. I like being able to easily identify racists. Makes it easier for me to avoid them.

Bruh, leftist dishonesty again:

“On behalf of all the MAGA patriots in America, I want to thank you for the historic victory for wi – life in the Supreme Court yesterday,” said Rep. Miller.

You can clearly hear your stumbling over her words.

I’ve said it all along. Trump supporters would have made great Nazis.
Why, because they are in support of killing millions of innocent fetuses each year?

It was a Freudian slip

I'd go with a "slip-up" (after watching the speech), but then again, anything is possible. It may well impact on her election chances.

However, when it comes to that "Hitler" quote?

IMO it is not wrong to cite a notorious authoritarian figure, most especially an "evil" one, when pointing out a fact of social concern being mirrored currently by similar efforts. That being the efforts of extreme Leftists to infiltrate schools at all levels to indoctrinate children into authoritarian socialist and socially destructive ideologies.

It’s dishonesty just to fit a political narrative because, honestly, liberals got nothing to go on since Biden has been office…
So?

So you're saying she's a Republican version of Maxine Waters or AOC?

Just how do you think that, in the event the 17th Amendment is repealed, Republicans are going to prevent states like New York or California from appointing Democratic senators? It's simply a desire to give state governments more (or any, for that matter) influence over the Federal government. I have no problem with that.
