And more importantly, by the 1920's they weren't nearly as wealthy and powerful as they were in the 18th century.

I've been hearing this crap since the time I learned to speak, and as a little tyke I didn't quite understand why my folks would keep muttering about "how we'd be living a much different life" if the stories were true.

I finally put all the pieces together around age fifteen, but even then I was still hearing nonsense about "The Rothschilds".
Being heirs to a fortune of almost half a billion dollars most definitely would have changed the life I lead, no question about it.
But we will never see a dime of it, because all that money was ransom and it was scattered to the four winds.

My father led a life like that as a small child, but by fifteen he was standing on a dock in New York City with almost nothing in his pocket as a German Jewish refugee who got smuggled here in the belly of the S.S. Steeg, a merchant ship owned by Uncle Sigmund Steeg.
