The crowd at the Republican National Convention quickly turned on Ted Cruz Wednesday night after he refused to endorse GOP nominee Donald Trump.

...

as Cruz wore on, it became apparent to the very pro-Trump crowd that he was not going to endorse his former rival, telling people they shouldn't "stay home in November" but they should feel free to "vote your conscience."

Well, at least one Republican isn't afraid to buck the party line and not endorse the Donald. Good for you, Ted Cruz. Still don't like you much, but I can respect that you're sticking to your guns...I mean conservative principles.

Friggin' Cruz -- to hell with him -- he couldn't even do what Bernie did and endorse his party's nominee.

He's just put himself in political Siberia -- which is probably fine by him, since he's as cold as ice, anyway.

It just looks dishonorable to show up at the convention and then not endorse the nominee. Even Kasich, who likewise didn't endorse, showed more class than Cruz by at least not showing up.

sore losers suck. IMHO if you run in a primary, you expect the also rans to support you if you win, and vice versa. I have always admired the Dems for being more team players.

Put a tent on this circus.

what a cluster**** this convention is. It will be fun to waatch the historical record played out on this disaster. Its going to make a great book.

The "Old Guard" Republicans are shooting themselves and their party in the foot.

Fairly stupid and short-sighted if you ask me. :coffeepap:

Cruz's wife had to be escorted out, and Cruz had trouble getting to the exit because of the hostility. Whether he stuck to script or not, that shouldn't have happened.

So maybe Cruz thinks he can run against Trump in 2020, but he'll never unseat a sitting president, barring some absolutely horrible blunder committed by Trump, which I doubt Trump would be stupid enough to do. Even Dubya got re-elected after committing the Iraq blunder -- unless Trump breaks into the Watergate hotel, I don't see how Cruz would have a chance against him in 2020.

It's only if Hillary becomes president that Cruz might have a chance. Maybe Cruz is banking on Hillary beating Trump.

And the fact Ted Cruz was able to get away with this stunt does not speak well of the Trump campagin's management of this convention.

Cruz played it high risk. The room, led by New York in the middle and front, turned on him, but he stuck to his principles, despite the abuse of a crowd.

Classic Ted Cruz.

I despise Cruz as a politician but you know what? Good for him. Maybe he did just sabatoge his career. But during the campaign Trump attacked Cruz' family. What kind of lowlife would endorse someone who did that? At least Cruz and the Bushes have shown there is something they put before their party. Their families.

Apparently he stuck to script.

Ironically, the Pro-Trump portion of the crowd interpreted "Vote Your Principles" to mean "Don't Vote Trump"

Actually, the Rnc are claiming that the script of the speech Cruz gave did not match the script the RNC received from Cruz in advance.

I don't care what they thought, boo'ing is one thing, becoming so hostile that the speaker and his family have to be escorted through aggressive, screaming crowds is not okay.

Perhaps I'm reading the news wrong. I'd like to see the RNC version, however.

Ted Cruz pledged to support Donald Trump if Donald Trump won the nomination. Donald Trump won the nomination.

Ted Cruz has exposed his true character. Ted Cruz' pledge isn't worth a cup of warm piss.

Given this election, this will probably actually help Trump. Cruz is scum.

Trump supporters were hostile and even threatened violence to some of the state delegates that wanted a roll call vote, too. Most of them supported Cruz.

Would you endorse someone who attacked your wife? What would THAT say about your character?

If you don't keep your word, what does that say about your character?

I've seen a lot of conventions. This one... /facepalm... I don't even know how to describe it. I pretty much loathe both Cruz and Trump, and was fervently hoping Kasich would somehow end up as the candidate, but damn. What a circus.

If Ted Cruz didn't plan on "playing nice", he probably shouldn't have agreed to speak at the convention. But, with that said, I don't really blame him for not endorsing the man who insulted Cruz's wife and insinuated Cruz's father was part of JFK assassination. I feel like the people criticizing Cruz probably would feel differently if they were in his shoes.

CNN broke that he wasn't going to endorse 14 hours ago.

 considering Trump has vowed to force the military to commit war crimes. If Trump ever became president his presidency would end with his head on a pike to serve as a warning to the next ten generations
