Here's the thing, under normal circumstances, Trump would be referred to as a 'lame duck' president, being ineligible to seek re-election. Therefore, his political clout and influence would be significantly limited.

The problem is Trump's base. While Trump doesn't give a shit about his loyal followers because he no longer needs them for anything, he can still wield the 'primary' threat over any GOP incumbent who dares step out of line. Trump's minions will eagerly destroy any incumbent if Trump tells them to do so.

Trump could literally set the entire nation on fire and his base will cheer him on. There is no limit to their stupidity. Trump said so himself.

A year ago, the right's entire anti-inflation plan was lower energy prices. Apparently halting energy projects turned out to be a higher priority.
