Do we also have to post when they are robbed of those medals while trying to get back to their dorms?

Ireland's Katie Taylor won a gold last year in women's boxing, and she is back again this time.

Not really. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) recommended banning all Russian athlete's from Rio.

The revenue-greedy International Olympic Committee (IOC) is allowing 271 out of 350 Russians to compete.

Would be so funny to see you and your Ukrainian "friends" getting salty and ever more butthurt if Russian athletes will win medals. LOL

BTW would you want to post about the Russian athletes that were allowed to compete by the recent sport court rulings?!?

Stuff like this is the damn shame...

Two Russian Swimmers Implicated in Doping to Compete in Rio

The Olympics honcho's are as corrupt as the Russia Sports Ministry.

...or you and all the people that accused these and other athletes were wrong (which happens quite often these days).
When you've realised that the accusations that you've so vehemently spouted were not supported by the sports court or IOC, you've resorted to the last refuge of a modern "internet expert/journalist" - whine about Russia and corruption.

There is no conspiracy, just people's own bias and stupidity.

This is a thread to count medals and live vicariously though your nations athletic champions, not argue about doping.

The US Men qualified second in the men's archery team today. Korea's #1 broke the world record today as his team qualified first. The USA #1, Brady Ellison finished second. Now comes the elimination matches

10 meter womens rifle.. damn that was fun to watch. Chinese were massive favorites and out of the blue comes a 19 year old American and grabs the first gold of the games.

AMERICAN SHOOTER WINS FIRST GOLD OF GAMES!
Unflappable American teenager Virginia Thrasher won the first gold medal of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games on Saturday, holding her nerve against two Chinese Olympic champions to clinch the women's 10m air rifle event.

The 19-year-old U.S. college champion edged out China's Du Li, gold in Athens in 2004, with an Olympic-record score of 208 in the sport's new finals format. Defending Olympic champion Yi Siling, also of China, took the bronze medal.

Wtf, Denmark won silver in the road race (Bicycle)... very very very unexpected. Belgium won gold, and the favorites failed big time.

Top seed Korea started out with a perfect 60/60 in the archery finals. USA's best archer Brady Ellison shot 2 tens as did rookie Zach Garrett (who was introduced to the sport by one of the guys I helped start as a coach) also shot clean but London Veteran Jake Kaminski dropped three points and Korea never looked back as they only dropped THREE points out of a possible 180 to beat the USA. Still Silver in a sport that is not considered one of our 15 most important is great given the heavy sponsorship Korea, China, and some of the Euro nations supply archery.

This was the first time the Koreans (which have been ranked #1 almost every year since 1988) has beat the USA men in the Olympics in a head to head elimination match though.

Great seeing that young Air Rifle shooter beat the heavily favored and state sponsored ladies from China

I saw a little of this event, it was quite interesting to watch, very skilled. The Aussie team got bronze, apparently they had not previously won a medal in the team event.

that was considered a huge upset since the Australian team was ranked around 15-19 internationally coming into the event though only 16 teams qualified (there were two ways for a complete team to qualify-teams that made it to the quarters of the '15 worlds or if all three individuals qualified by finishing in the top 32 of the worlds or placing highly in qualifying continental tournaments). The only time I remember an Australian doing well at the olympics was Simon Fairweather winning gold over USA's Vic Wunderle in Sydney. Simon had been the world champion in 91 IIRC so while he wasn't ranked highly going in Sydney, it wasn't all that wild an upset for him to have won. Korea's depth in archery is amazing but the new rules make it easier for upsets (originally, teams were not in the games-but at the worlds it was purely the top three (four used to shoot) scores added up. Then it was head to head base on cumulative scores: each archer shot 3X3 arrows with 270 being a perfect score. Korea rarely lost that -96 Atlanta was one to the USA. a few years ago the format was changed to each archer shooting 2 arrows per end and each end was awarded "Set points"

for example Korea shot 60 and the USA shot 57-Korea gets 2 points. First team to 5 wins. That allows a team to have an awful round-like a miss-and still win. just like in tennis where total points do not determine the winner.

makes it more exciting. for example, in the women's event South Korea went 1-2-3 in qualifying. They have NEVER lost a team event. no matter what the format. though this new system makes it a little tougher for them

One of the Australian boys knocked then world #1 (he qualified second here) Brady Ellison out of the olympics in 12, he also won I believe the world indoor-beating Brady again though Brady has more world class wins than anyone in the tournament since Korea constantly brings new archers to the games

here is the Australian Archer who has done the best recently

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryan_Tyack

about 12 years ago, Australia had two top juniors who were world class against adults-the best Being David Barnes who was seen as a great talent, He retired before he was twenty though.
