Rick Scott issues travel advisory for ‘socialists,’ warning Florida is ‘openly hostile’ to them

Voters like the prosperity that a free market brings them, and that a command economy utterly fails to bring them. They also like to have a social safety net, mainly paid for by taxing those at the top.

If that's all you're advocating, then stop calling yourselves socialists and tying yourself to weirdo extremists. And if you actually are a weirdo extremist, then stop trying to hide behind the normies with the "Socialism is when fire departments exist" motte-and-bailey.

Again, the facts clearly show that the British Raj killed substantially more people than Stalin. You not liking that fact, because it rather throughly dismantles your narrative, doesn’t change it.
I think we should not reinstate the British Raj.

Furthermore, trying to equate Stalinism to ”socialism” is especially silly
You brought up Stalin, not me.

Furthermore, trying to equate Stalinism to ”socialism” is especially silly because not even the Soviet Union itself was Stalinist after 1953. “But Stalin” simply isn’t relevant to modern day America. All it really shows is how decades of Cold War propaganda have rendered Americans incapable of understanding ideological differences.

I am not aware of any sources that mention the death toll attributable to the British Raj. Know of any?

I'm going to call you on the fact that the Raj killed more than Stalin

There is no way that is true.

Weirdo extremists? Gee, you mean like the idiots still mourning the fact Batista and his cronies got chased out of Cuba with their tails between their legs? Because there’s a lot more of those folks than there are of actual Stalinists in America these days.

The Raj was not kind, but Stalin was absolutely brutal.

I live in Miami and I have never once heard anyone bring up Batista in any context. But if you want to simp for communism, be my guest. Again, the results speak for themselves. No one in Miami is getting on rafts to try to escape to Havana.

There‘s been quite a few over the years; thirty million is actually a conservative estimate.

This list lays out the mass deaths from major famines during British rule.

We're not usually the ones calling that socialism, people like Rick Scott are.

Thirty-five million. Jesus that's a lot.

I think that's a race to the bottom. Being better than Stalin isn't saying much.
Fair enough.

That said, the idea the Raj killed more than Stalin is a lie.

Right wingers just admit their fascism.
They’re getting bolder. Germany knows where this goes.

The contradiction is not so much that we on the left call ourselves socialists, as it is the right that uses the term disparagingly even as they don’t touch all the socialism that has been a steadily increasing part of the US since the first National Parks were created.

Coming from the guy trying to equate Stalinism to modern day socialism that’s pretty comical. Let me guess....you are going to pretend you don’t know what Alpha 66 or Omega 7 were either? 🙄

The results speak for themselves....the rule of the capitalist British Raj killed at least three times as many people as Stalin did.

Thirty-five million. Jesus that's a lot.
And Britain is responsible for the millions of deaths in Ireland, except Britain has to share top billing with a potato famine much as it has to do with various famines in the Raj.

There are multiple people in this thread calling for socialism.

Are you saying that all the famines in India under British rule were the fault of the British?

I'm going to call you on the fact that the Raj killed more than Stalin

There is no way that is true.

Article mainly focuses on Mao, but it references Snyder‘s work.

“How, finally, does Mao’s record compare to those of Hitler or Stalin? Snyder estimates that Hitler was responsible for between 11 million and 12 million noncombatant deaths, while Stalin was responsible for at least 6 million, and as many as 9 million if “foreseeable” deaths caused by deportation, starvation, and incarceration in concentration camps are included.”

As already pointed out, the British Raj killed at least thirty million Indians during the course of its reign.

There are multiple people in this thread calling for socialism.

Well what do they mean by that? Control of the means of production or a good social safety net including things like socialized medicine?

Which do you think Rick Scott is talking about?

If you want national parks, just say you want national parks instead of associating it with a word that is horrendously unpopular.

Are you saying that all the famines in India under British rule were the fault of the British?

Funny how India went from having massive famines which killed millions upon millions of people nearly once a decade under the British to not having anything close since independence.

Did Britain collectivize agriculture as Stalin did to kill the millions?

Do you even know what caused the famines in India?

Bat Boy never grew enough balls to define specifically what awaits anyone outside his ideological bubble.
I dare you, Senator Scott.
Don't hide behind Francis Buxton, tell us what you intend to do with any socialists you might catch.

Nope. Don't care.
