We are in debt and they want us to give away more of OUR money.

Rich Nations Urged to Weigh 'Robin Hood' Tax to Help Poor - FoxNews.com

As President Obama huddles with world leaders for the G-20 summit in South Korea to weigh proposals aimed at stabilizing the global economy, one idea being pushed is a so-called "Robin Hood tax," aimed at collecting money from rich nations to give to the poor.

The Robin Hood tax -- a global financial transaction fee that could raise hundreds of billions of dollars to pay the cost of the global financial crisis and support developing nations struggling to recover -- is not popular.

While Britain, France and Germany have championed a bank tax for all G-20 nations, finance chiefs from the industrialized nations shot down the idea at a previous summit held in Toronto last summer.

Still, the tax's supporters, which include unions, environmental groups, Comic Relief, UNICEF and others in a multinational coalition, say the tax could go to canceling debt from poor nations. Or it could be used for social programs to fight hunger, diseases such as HIV/AIDS and malaria or other causes, programs to which the United States and other nations already donate billions.

The crusaders -- a coalition of 183 organizations from 42 countries -- issued a plea this week urging leaders at the G-20 summit in South Korea to adopt the measure. While specifics have not been outlined, the idea would be to charge a small transaction fee, anywhere from 0.05 percent to 1 percent, on each stock transaction made.

Its just a proposal so far, and it wasn't suggested by Obama. And the US is under no obligation to agree to it even if the majority of G-20 members do, which they won't because no one wants their budget involved in international treaty.

So if it becomes a real issue, then I'd be a little worried, but all kinds of crazy things get proposed at these kind of conferences. Just because something is proposed doesn't mean it has any real merit.

Heck the proposer, which FOX fails to name, which seems like an important detail to me, may be just doing it to score political points at home. Who knows? And thats the real question, who is proposing it and a why, in a reasonable analysis, are they proposing it.

idiocy. btw Robin Hood took money from greedy government scum bags and gave it back to the people who had been looted by government agents.

I was going to say almost exactly the same thing.

It's one thing to take from a Tyrant and give to the needy and another to have a Tyrant take from the average Joe and give to the foolish people of the world who don't operate under a system the allows and encourages wealth in it's core belief systems.

I think if they want help they have to change completely and reject Socialism/Marxism.

Obama would like to finish his collapse or our system and spread his Socialism/Marxism world wide.

Sorry to report that system is a great system if you want everyone who isn't in charge to live like they do in third world Nations.

Robin Hood my ass this is forced participation with no chance at any worthwhile return unless the rest of the world changes.

NOT US our system works fine as long as the Liberals/Socialist/Marxists, like Obama, other idiots, crooks and Rinos like McCain, Schwarzenegger stay out of the way.

Sharity begins at home PERIOD, and we already give away a hell of lot more than any other Nation in History ever hoped to. Enough is enough.

Could you two explain you're thought processes that allowed you understand this proposal completely from one non-detailed article in just less than 30 minutes?

Coucilman, is Obama a socialist or a marxist? You're gettin' me confused.

And this tax is a stupid idea, but so is the G20 as a whole anyway.

The article isn't detailed enough on the nature of the proposal to give an opinion at all really.

You've been reading too much Howard Pyle.

As to the OP...I'm...tenuously interested. My chief concern would be to ensure the money gets where it needs to go. If we help bolster poorer nations, their recovery means better markets for our goods and services which in turn helps us.

We're going to pay them to buy our product? That makes zero sense.

How is it that you can't decides it's something you oppose in 30 Seconds or less?

This is a plan for global redistribution and I oppose redistribution in any form.

Coucilman, is Obama a socialist or a marxist? You're gettin' me confused.

And this tax is a stupid idea, but so is the G20 as a whole anyway.

So what you are saying is do not know that these two are basically synonyms, and you can add Black Liberation Theology and I am not going to explain it again.

I will say this in a nut shell it's all variations of ways to use the stripping of all incentives to achieve wealth through forced redistribution, as are taxes, the main difference is the way you achieve the goal.

They are incompatible with our form of economics and in the case of Obama's Black Liberation Theology it's is Anti-American, Anti-Constitutional, Anti-Capitalistic, and Anti-White people.

Google, Socialism is the same as Marxism and read it for yourself and then watch these.

Then Google Black Liberation Theology is built on Marxism, and watch these videos and you will not have ask about this or why I say Obama is Anti-American, ever again. Hell you might be able to spot him doing things to promote his Theology in damn near everything he does. He's just so very good at making people think he's not doing what we see because he lies so well.

Like it or not, our economy is global and if most of the rest of the world cant pay for what we have to offer then we're in trouble.

If we take money and invest it in developing and rebuilding countries in crisis, we put these countries into international economics and they become viable trading partners with the US. Think of it as an investment.

Except for this bad boy: Marshall Plan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Not that I'm supporting this Robin Hood proposal, but the idea of bolstering other nations does have a history of success.

Jamesrage you're better than this, why did you thank this post. "Its crazy if you can't decide if you support something in less than 30 seconds." A "Google socialist Obama anti-American black liberatian marxist plot?"

It depends on how exactly the money is allocated and used. Firstly we gave them money which was either lost or squandered by bad governments there or they had moderately good governments which are poor and trying to reform to the neoliberal direction at the cost of hundreds of millions in reforms. So if were going to make them spend huge amounts of money to be able to be part of free trade arrangements and other 'club' benefits we might as well give back. Also the volatility of financial movements hampers the developing country the most so adding a tax makes sense for alot of different reasons. But good luck getting people to agree to anything.

Anyone have ANYTHING constructive to contribute?
Errol Flynn is a better Robin Hood than Russell Crowe could ever hope to be.

Don't blame me for any inability to read and comprehend English or watch a video and understand the language used it. I guess they used words that were in excess of the monosyllabic limit.

If I don't like the smell of skunks and I am asked if I want to go hang out in a room full of them do I spend and hour thinking about it, before I say: HELL NO.

If it takes more than a few seconds something is wrong, as there is with those who believe you have to ponder something you already know is wrong.

If you dress a pig in a designer dress and accompany that pig to a White House Ball she's still pig. Granted these days she's most likely a Socialist/Marxist possibly even a Black Liberation Theology pig but a pig none the less.

I knew that Liberals learn to make decisions because of what they are told, not what they know or learned on their own.

I have no idea what excuses Independents use.

If he had his way Obama would tax everyone and go on continuous vacations and take all the passenger jets in the Air Force fleet filled with fellow followers of radical haters of America, and rent out all the best most expensive hotels in the world, from now on.

Uh huh.

No chance of that. I don't care for Russell Crowe since he took part in an adulteress affair that broke up a marriage.

Besides Errol Flynn was a great actor and Crowe is only a good one, that will never be great in my book.

Obama in a great liar and after all acting is just lying with panache. , and movement.
