"There is no incentive because price controls mean that you lose money. So the more you produce, the more money you lose," he says.

Socialism rocks!

Venezuela is a god-awful mess that is getting worse with little chance of getting better anytime soon.

A good place to stay away from.

it is a good place to stay away from.
my business affairs are primarily in Colombia and ... hey have taken a drastically different approach from the chavez idiocy, and it's paying off for them.
if they can ever legitimately combat the ever looming black market in Colombia and somehow turn it to the white market... improvements will flow like a torrent.

I work with many firms who used to be Venezuelan, but moved on to greener pastures in Colombia...some of the the stories I have heard are pretty intense.

It amazes me why anyone thinks government economic interventions work. History has proven time and time again that they dont. If you want prosperity then you should be promoting free markets. There is no alternative.

price controls, the state stealing entire industries, etc ,etc... it might be a recipe for leftist utopia, but it's not a recipe for success.

Indeed. Chavez must be laughing in his grave, rather than turning in it. So much for all those promised improvements.

Rather surprising that so many would welcome the same sort of failed crap to this country.

Thats correct.

You did notice that this thread is about what's going on in Venezuela, not in the USA, eh?

"Condoms aren't completely safe, a friend of mine was wearing one and he got hit by a bus." ~ Bob Rubin

Perhaps I missed something but that didnt make sense.

They welcome it because they know THEY will get it right THIS time.

True enough, but not without a little help from their friends!!!!

An internal document authored by three organizations from Colombia and the United States, evidences a sinister plan against the Venezuelan state to provoke violence – even death – with the intention of justifying an international intervention in anticipation of municipal elections scheduled for next December 8.

The document, titled “Strategic Venezuelan Plan”, was prepared by the Democratic Internationalism Foundation (FID | Inicio), headed by ex Colombian president Alvaro Uribe, together with the First Colombia Think Tank (FCPPC | Inicio) and the US Consulting firm, FTI Consulting (FTI Consulting | A Global Consulting Firm | Strategy Consulting). Dated June 13, 2013, the plan was developed during a meeting between representatives from these three organizations, leaders of the Venezuelan opposition, including Maria Corina Machado, Julio Borges and Ramon Guillermo Avelado, expert in psychological operations J.J. Rendon and the Director of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) for Latin America, Mark Feierstein.

Venezuela is in the same sinking petro-state boat as Russia.
