RFID and you...

D

drakaan

Hi all. I'm new here, but certainly not new to science, politics, or forums, so without further ado:

Most (probably all) of you have heard of RFID tags. There have been a lot of Orwellian predictions about them being implanted in people eventually, and those people being tracked constantly.

Yesterday, I heard the news that dogs in oakland are now *required* to be tagged (not sure if it's with RFID, but it's at least similar technology), or the owner pays a $100.00 fine.

Is that step one in a larger process, or will human people say "no", when the time comes.

There are arguments for and against doing this to humans...public safety vs. privacy, etc, etc.

What do you people think about tagging people this way? Is it worth it, or is it the beginning of the end?

It's a huge leap from dogs to people - dogs having had no civil liberties to begin with. I don't see us being...implanted, I suppose it is? Maybe yes in countries like Singapore, where that kind of thing would go over because the people can't say no to it and the gov't has the $$ to implement something like that. But as for Americans, it would be impossible at this time or in the near future.

It doesn't have to be a giant leap. Should convicted fellons receive the tags because of the chance they might commit another crime and need to be found as quick as possible? If so, anybody in jail should receive one and then it wouldn't be a giant leap to make everybody receive one of those tags for national security.

RFIDs have already been implanted in people. Applied Digital Solutions has FDA approval to implant them into people.
