Breaking in the UK for the last 40 minutes! The Trump campaign database has been leake/hacked and put online, revealing how voters were banded and targeted for specific messages to each cohort. Black voters were particularly targeted by the "Deterrence" group, who drilled down to precinct level to send messages fro "friends" deterring them from voting in tight areas.

I can't believe it hasn't been picked up in the USA! The same computers geeks were involved in the preceding UK Brexit referendum, and the subsequent elections eventually giving us Johnson, our own mini Trump! Were we the dummy run to hone their manipulation techniques?

Interesting but not at all surprising. Trump hates black people.

It hasn't been "picked up" in the US because (unlikel the vast majority of developed countries where the governing system is essentially modeled on that of the UK) it is generally acceptable behaviour to manipulate the electoral process in order to maintain power regardless of any negative effects that doing so will have on the country.

How does revealing bad information about your opponent so people won't vote for them constitute "manipulating the electoral process?"

Isn't that what Biden is doing with pretty much every ad he puts out complaining about Trump?

It wasn't about "revealing bad information"

I'm shocked! It's unbelievable! No, wait, we pretty much knew this anyway.

I don't think it has made many waves in the US due to the leak of Trump tax documents yesterday, and the debate tonight. It may get more notice tomorrow.

What do you believe it was about, specifically? Do you think Democrats don't tailor their ads to various audiences?

Try reading the article. It isn't about negative campaigning or "tailoring messages." It's about a deliberate effort to deter people -- primarily minorities -- from voting.

This is not normal. It's deeply disrespectful, especially as the Trump campaign makes shallow gestures towards black voters, including a tone-deaf "Platinum Plan" announced for minorities just this weekend.

It's also about two MASSIVE leaks from the Trump camp getting to the public in just the past week -- years of tax funds, and a 200 million person database. The Trump campaign has some pretty serious issues.

With targeted ads. Of course it's normal. The whole point of advertising in a political campaign is to get people not to vote for your opponent. Do you think Biden is running ads about how mean Trump was to illegal immigrants in cities with little or no Hispanic population?

How else do you think they're "deterring" people from voting for opponents? Scary letters?

I guess that you don't quite realize that there is a difference between "manipulating the electoral process in order to maintain power regardless of any negative effects that doing so will have on the country" and "revealing bad information about your opponent".

Trump is polling at 21% among black Americans, and it's freaking the left out. Desperate hail mary attempts to scare them back onto the plantation.

HOGWASH!!

In any civilized country "the whole point of advertising in a political campaign" is to get people to vote FOR YOU (and for the platform/policies that your party WILL implement if elected [as opposed to what you say you will do in order to get elected]). It is only in countries where there is no significant difference between "The Ins" and "The Outs" (and hence no reason to vote FOR one or the other) that elections degenerate to mudslinging and campaigns based almost solely on negatives.

Not only do I realize it, I'm the one here pointing it out. And what is described in the article is the latter.

Don't be silly. Every election campaign is a combination of advertising what's good about the candidate, and what's bad about the opponent. Every significant campaign in the US has done plenty of both, and I challenge you to identify any political campaign in any other "civilized country" that didn't also involve healthy doses of both.

Wow, talk about lying!!!

The article states that the Trump campaign has broken down categories of voters for targeted ads. For example, it states that in 2016 the Trump campaign targets some groups more likely to vote Democratic for ads against Clinton, while targeted groups more likely to vote Republican with pro-Trump ads. So what? That is not "voter suppression."

Out of this, the grotesque lie is formed this is to keep blacks from voting. In fact, the story is exactly NOTHING. Biden runs ads on radio most listened to by white people with pure attack-Trump ads. But on radio most listened to by blacks with pro-Biden ads.

BIDEN IS TRYING TO SUPPRESS THE WHITE VOTE!!! Same lie-logic.

Without lying, the Democratic Party has nothing.

No it's not.

Trump is trying to demoralize blacks, create a sense of despair, that their vote doesn't count, so they will stay home.
It's not about "not voting for your opponent" it's about not voting at all. See, the former entails voting against an opponent, the latter is anti-democracy.

Biden is trying to get votes. Trump is trying to get minorities to stay home. Biden is pro-democracy, Trump is anti-democracy.

That's the difference you fail to grasp

No, that's simply a difference that you failed to prove.

I've got pages of links, but you'd just ignore it. Below is just scratching the surface, but you'll just say it's lefties making shit up.
So, why bother with someone like you?

It's not just Trump, it's the entire GOP's strategy.

Here are a few republican operatives ADMITTING that 'voter id' suppresses dems from voting and helps republicans get elected

In Louisville, Georgia, in October 2018, Black senior citizens were told to get off a bus that was to have taken them to a polling place for early voting. The bus trip was supposed to have been part of the "South Rising" bus tour sponsored by the advocacy group Black Voters Matter. A clerk of the local Jefferson County Commission allegedly called the intended voters' senior center to claim that the bus tour constituted "political activity," which is barred at events sponsored by the county. Latosha Brown, one of the founders of Black Voters Matter, described the trip's prevention as a clear-cut case of "...voter intimidation. This is voter suppression, Southern style." The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund sent a letter to the county calling for an "immediate investigation" into the incident, which it condemned as, "an unacceptable act of voter intimidation," that "potentially violates several laws."

Roughly 40 black seniors in Georgia were told to get off a bus organized to take them to cast their votes.
