Sister Mary Margaret Kreuper used tuition fees and donations to a California Catholic school to subsidize her casino expenses

A retired nun has admitted to embezzling $835,000 over 10 years from a Catholic school in California to fund her gambling habit, according to federal prosecutors.

Sister Mary Margaret Kreuper, 79, a former principal at St James Catholic School in Torrance, California, used tuition fees and donations to subsidize casino gambling expenses and credit card payments, the authorities said.

Kreuper, who took vows of poverty at age 18 and spent 59 years in the religious order, said in her plea agreement that she had begun diverting money from the school’s tuition and donation account to a savings account that funded the living expenses of the nuns who worked at the school – and then used some of the money herself.

I had a lot of nuns teaching back in grade school and high school back in the 70's.

I am fairly certain that they are all in hell now...

Defund the Catholic Church.

Defund the Catholic Church.
Freedom of speech, freedom of religion... no, you haven't?
Such a charm of these democratic values.

At the same time... well, I have no complaints about the Catholic Church, in view of its very weak presence in Russia. But I have an extremely negative attitude towards the Orthodox Church. I consider it corrupt, disloyal to the people (but very loyal to the government), and simply a bad organization.
However, I do not think it is right to call for its dissolution, it definitely needs to be reformed, since the organization has long discredited itself in the eyes of a very large mass of Russians.

We need AI to turn her into a Johnny Cash song.

Gambling can be an addiction, I doubt they are going to send a 79 year old to the slammer, she'll be playing from that big deck in the sky soon enough.

It's disconcerting the lengths she went to to cover it up, that may in the end be her undoing, as far as if the judge send her to the big house.

Well, since she gambles, her vow of poverty still holds true, even after pocketing 800 Grand.

Always smile at people who look for outrageous ways to defeat the 'system' ---though playing with other people's money is indefensible , imho .

Why they essentially get caught up just recovering their losses of what is ' free ' money in the first place is a profound mystery to me .
Far better to spend , spend , spend / invest /trade under a fully concealed identity .
But best of all , become a Trader and take out of the system money that you find others are incapable of looking after .

All you have to do is keep your eyes and ears open--- latterly safe haven assets and resources like lumber and copper etc . Utilities also , including water .

I think it’s trash and should be defunded. But I don’t give any money to that church so I’m whatevs.

I have read that there are many people who feel blessed that they were taught by Catholic nuns.

They not only learned the 3 R's but they could study in an orderly environment strictly maintained by the nuns.

Many Catholic schools, I understand, have recently closed down.

What a shame, especially when we need private schools more than ever.

Seems like she was dealing with more cash than her vows of poverty would tolerate.

Had to dump it somehow. ;)

I see that resulting in a myriad of sexual problems. Just saying.

To that, I say, "Good riddance."

Why? So more whites in flight can run away from the blax?

Having spent most of my education through college in Catholic schools, I would have them all closed. Brainwashing children should be against the law.

40 years seems much too long. I dont support prison time for non violent crimes. What she did is wrong but i dont see any point to her being sentenced to prison.

I've been a Catholic with varying degrees of devotion my whole life.

There is much in the dogma that I don't understand, but I DO know that money is a pretty important feature of the religion. ;)

It seems to be in every religion. Im a southern Baptist and while i believe in God im not that religious.

Religion is, IMHO, a social construct.

Faith is, again IMHO, a fiercely personal endeavor.

Both seem helpful for either. Christianity as a broad example, seems to encompass many, many divergent and often contradictory ideas.

I find myself very often asking proponents of particular thought in regard to dogma whether or not Christ said it.

Very often, religions and religiously motivated individuals claim divine source ideas and actions that are more personal.

I make no claim of divine sourcing for on my thoughts on the matter.

I have only arrived at an understanding that is comfortable for me. If it's not comfortable for God, I'm sure He'll let me know. Seems like He does in certain instances.

Never read where Jesus said, “seven come eleven, baby needs new shoes!”

I had the displeasure of nuns teaching me in the sixties. If I take a vow of poverty can I get eighty grand a year too?
