In a new twist in the abortion access fight, congressional Republicans are trying to block a Biden administration spending rule that they say will cut off millions of dollars to anti-abortion counseling centers.

WASHINGTON (AP) — In a new twist to the fight over abortion access, congressional Republicans are trying to block a Biden administration spending rule that they say will cut off millions of dollars to anti-abortion counseling centers.

The rule would prohibit states from sending federal funds earmarked for needy Americans to so-called “crisis pregnancy centers,” which counsel against abortions. At stake are millions of dollars in federal funds that currently flow to the organizations through the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program, a block grant program created in 1996 to give cash assistance to poor children and prevent out-of-wedlock pregnancies.

“Programs that only or primarily provide pregnancy counseling to women only after they become pregnant likely do not meet the ... standard,” the Health and Human Services agency said in its rule proposal released late last year.

More than 7,000 comments have been submitted on the proposed rule, which includes a series of restrictions on how states would be able to spend TANF dollars.

They are BS where they just frighten poor young women into bringing an unwanted life into the world. Once it's born they don't give a shit. Hypocrites.
 
This is a 'truth in advertising' issue more than anything. If they clearly identify themselves for what they are and are not, BEFORE you drive there, park your car and walk-in then there is a useful niche counseling service that they can provide to those who are pro-life, and are seeking such services. This niche used to be supplied by clearly identified religiously funded catholic or protestant based organisations which would not be appropriate for religious/state issues. My former wife and I went to to a 'St Thomas' pregnancy counseling service when she was pregnant once. Its was very heavy handed from a propaganda stand-point ,but I can't say we were blindsided like these newer 'centers' are which seek to deceive people into thinking that they provide the broader more inclusive pregnancy services that Planned Parenthood might provide.

Mostly this is about providing a lot of pamplets and phone numbers to poor mothers needing help finding doctors, counselors prenatal care, food and shelter resources and some maternity or baby clothes or even car seats. I am not opposed to pro life organisations doing this work, as long as they advertise themselves correctly.
 
I am all for education that helps women keep the child. I like the ultra-sound initiative that the Knights of Columbus have that allows the woman to see her child before aborting....
 
They are not anti-abortion clinics. They are pregnancy crisis clinics.

That organization saves many lives through that initiative---where is the "disgust" ??

I'm very happy to have posted a study tonight that church attendance is dropping like a stone. CPCs wouldn't exist without bible-thumpers.

I am ok with offering or 'allowing' it, but I am not remotely interested in coercing or nagging or in any way pushing the ultrasound because it normally does not serve any medical purpose per se. It agenda driven exercise that is akin to propaganda. Its really about guilting women into not having an abortion, and we normally do not do that with any other medical procedure.
 
true---in a way it IS guilting Lord knows we could use more guilt these days....) but this is more awareness of what it is you are aborting.........but the Knights are not a medical org...........................it has caused many women to change their minds----no coercing

A young woman who finds out she has an unplanned pregnancy should go to a CPC & demand a $10K check to cover her child expenses before she lets them touch or talk to her.

I have been involved in that program for 5 years and it has created ZERO trauma.

What is your basis of knowledge? Ever follow up with women who choose to abort? I have a basis of knowledge far greater than yours, my friend.

What's the point of the ultrasound? What's the effect? It is you who are bloviating out the ass. (Also, you need some education on basic biology.) You prefer to misinform the patient, rather than inform. Are you going to pretend you're not pushing your agenda on vulnerable individuals?

Fetus do not possess recognizable aspects of the human form until 12 weeks. When you say save lives do you mean preventing the termination of the pregnancy?
