In a letter to President Joe Biden this morning, Republicans in the House and Senate are demanding that he withdraw the nomination of California attorney general Xavier Becerra to head the Department of Health and Human Services. Becerra’s confirmation hearing in the Senate is scheduled for tomorrow.

“Mr. Becerra’s lack of healthcare experience, enthusiasm for replacing private health insurance with government-run Medicare-for-all, and embrace of radical policies on immigration, abortion, and religious liberty, render him unfit for any position of public trust, and especially for HHS Secretary,” the letter states.

The letter was spearheaded by Arkansas senator Tom Cotton and North Carolina representative Dan Bishop and signed by eleven Republican senators and more than 60 GOP representatives. In it, lawmakers argue that Becerra’s lack of relevant health-care experience will be especially detrimental as the country works to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. They write that his “lack of qualifications is particularly alarming given the important role the HHS Secretary will play in efforts to develop and distribute vaccines, coordinate research efforts, and draft critical regulations to carry out recovery legislation.” Xavier Becerra & HHS: Republicans Ask Biden to Withdraw Controversial Nomination | National Review

Trump had time to play, now it is Biden's turn.

They make some sound and valid point, but no, it won’t have any kind of impact.

No, it will not have any impact except having GOP come off as whiny. They don't get to demand anything because they lose. They can make their points during hearings as best they can but will ultimately lose so they'll have to figure out how to do that like adults.

The "losers" no more deserve a choice than the Democrats had with Brett or Amy. That's what you mean right?

This is the GOP behavior during Obama, accelerated by ad campaigns against several DEM women and folks of color.

considering the GOP is made up largely of imposters they must refrain from voting and submit resignations for fraudulent representation of the republican party.

Resign You Right Wing Nuts You Have No Party!!!!!!!

Pretty much. Best thing they can do is voice their objections during the hearing but ultimately they won't get their way and, honestly, they shouldn't. If they want to get their way they should win in the next election.

I think it is decent point. Giving Xavier Becerra the head role in such a prestigious department that is at the forefront of tackling the Coronavirus pandemic certainly smacks of political patronage, since he will be able to take the credit for the department’s vaccine rollout. Certainly, anyone who is in charge of HHS should have a strong background in, well, the administration of health and human services.

However, the protestations coming from people who might have voted to confirm the likes of Betsy DeVos as Secretary of Education, Scott Pruitt as head of the EPA, or Ben Carson as HUD Secretary ring hollow and nakedly partisan. Not that I think that any of these people were bad. Just grossly unqualified to head the particular highly complex civil service departments they were put in charge of. Those who voted to confirm them have not one iota of room to speak about their concern for anyone’s lack of qualifications without acknowledging the part they played in systematizing grossly open patronage of appointing heads of departments as reward for political loyalty and donations.

The real problem with liberal, socialist, communist, marxist surrounding the democrat party is they are ruining America and stupid democrats buy into the sh** that they are spewing forth. If you think there is nothing wrong with all these crazy policies we are seeing and the folks running things now, watch the video.

I seem to be out of "free" reads of your source. I'm interested in who the eleven Senators are. Are they named in the article?

Certainly. But far too many politicians seem to have forgotten that the internet was ever invented and that everything they have stated in words, writing or votes can quickly be looked up and their naked dishonest hypocrisy pointed out as plain as day more easily than ever.

I doubt it will come to much. But if the Republicans were really worried about lack of experience in Executive posts, you'd think they would have had something to say about DeVos.

You think they have changed behavior due the internet, I have a bridge to sell you. When has this type of showboating NOT gone on?

The GOP has plenty of help from its 51st Senator.

No. Just that the showboating simply has less impact across party lines than it might once have, with the extreme rapidity of people being able to draw up old tweets and C-Span clips of politicians’ contradictory statements and positions. It is much more convenient than having to take an afternoon to run over to the public library to look up newspaper articles showing a politician’s prior contradictory statements, positions or voting record.

We are watching old fashioned tub thumping, but it cannot be taken seriously. It is like watching someone try to speak at us with sanctimony and portentousness while their trousers have slipped down around their ankles without their notice exposing the color of their boxers to the audience. It is ridiculous.

Wait a minute. The party that put Trump in the White House is citing a lack of relevant experience?
Well isn't that a hoot!

I doubt it will come to much. But if the Republicans were really worried about lack of experience in Executive posts, you'd think they would have had something to say about DeVos.
Or maybe even Trump? He was the least qualified of all the republicans who got major posts. The GOP could have put a stop to his BS before it ever started.

Those liberals, socialists, communists, marxists WON
Those conservatives, white supremacists, alt-right, fascists LOST
(Hope you recognize how silly your "labels" sound when applied back to you)

Republicans prefer that someone with heathcare experience, like a price-gouging former pharmaceutical executive, run HHS.
