OMAHA, Neb. — Republican U.S. Rep. Jeff Fortenberry of Nebraska says he will resign after he was convicted of lying to authorities.

His district, Nebraska 1st, is basically R+25 or so.

So, his replacement should win easily.

Good. Congresspeople convicted of crimes should almost always resign IMO, except for maybe the smallest misdemeanors.

It's the convicted part that is getting harder as the republican's crimes get worse and worse.

One wonders at the health of a society where it is "news" when a convicted elected official resigns (especially when the crime that they were convicted of directly impinges on their election in the first place).

Trump would tell him "Never resign. Never apologize. Never concede. It makes you look weak. And it gives a win to the democrats."
