Republican Senator Tommy Tuberville has a very weird theory for why Russia invaded Ukraine

Senator Tommy Tuberville (R/AL) thinks he knows why Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine. It's not because Ukraine was once part of the Soviet Union and Putin wants to restore those former borders. Nor is it that Putin worries about the encroachment of the West -- and NATO -- into Ukraine and at his country's western border. According to the Alabama Republican senator, it's communism. And farmland. Or something. "He can't feed his people," Tuberville said of Putin in a speech to the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce earlier this week, as was reported by 1819 News. "It's a communist country, so he can't feed his people, so they need more farmland." Uh, what?

First off, it's worth noting that Russia is not, in fact, a communist country. The Soviet Union was a communist country, but its fall in 1991 signaled the end of the communist regime. Russia is now an authoritarian regime with Putin in charge. I also did a bit of digging on Tuberville's claim about Russia's inability to feed its people -- and, it turns out, he is totally wrong. According to the 2021 Global Hunger Index, Russia ranks 25th out of 116 countries -- with a level of hunger that is "low." And Russia is currently the top exporter of wheat in the world. I reached out to Tuberville's office for some clarity on what, exactly, he was talking about. They didn't get back to me, but if they do, I will be sure to share their perspective.

The amount of stupid that eminates from Tuberville specifically and Talabama generally is astounding.

Half of this ****ing country doesn't realize that Russia stopped being communist in 1991.
Another third can't figure out that fascism and communism are polar opposites.
Communism promoted the idea of a classless society and yet these fools stare at Putin surrounded by Russian billionaire oligarchs and
it doesn't occur to them that surrounding yourself with billionaire elites is a an indicator that your leadership might be fascist.

This is why America has been flooded for over a decade by well funded revisionist apparatchiks like Prager, D'Souza, Goldberg, Limbaugh, Rogan, Alex Jones, Ben Shapiro...the list is endless.
The objective has always been to garble history to the point where Americans are unable to figure out who the white hats are.

"Hitler was a leftist?" That's Putin's objective, to convince Americans that fascism is leftist and that Democrats collude with fascists, when in reality Putin is the Fascist in Chief these days
and fascism is right wing extremism.

Once you begin digging, you begin to see Trumpers contradicting themselves every other sentence, because they don't actually know which end is up either, and that is not an accident.
Trump loves the poorly educated, remember?
So does his boss, who is now reveling in spreading the same nonsense among his own people, calling Ukrainians nazis, when their own president is Jewish.

From here on out, when you read or hear this revisionism out of the mouths of Republicans, you know where it came from...Vladimir Putin.
And you will know that one of our political parties now consists almost exclusively of paid Russian assets seeking to dismantle our democracy.

If we don't pull our heads out of our own ignorant asses and get our facts straight, it won't be long before WE are the "Ukrainians".
