Republican Majority In Supreme Court Strikes Down Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act

Re: Republican Majority In Supreme Court Strikes Down Section 4 of the Voting Rights

I know, it's so hard to get those ID's, it is so inconvenient..... Give me a break.

Oh I think your party has gone just about far enough. In Mississippi in the last national election 82% of blacks came out and voted. Some of them stood in lines for as much as eight hours. Bend forward and brace yourself. I'll bet that this will bring out 90%.

Not sure what that has to do with anything....

You honestly don't remember all the crap that went on in majority Democrat precincts attempting to cause folks to give up and not vote? That's what brought so many out and that's what caused them to stand in line eight hours if that's what it took. It will be worse next time. People have caught onto what the Republican party is trying to do.

This was a supreme court decision......in case you didn't know. And Republicans have not made it harder for minorities to vote. They simply want to make sure we have fair elections.

Re: Republican Majority In Supreme Court Strikes Down Section 4 of the Voting Rights

I've had a voter registration card since 1955. You people don't care a damn about anybody except yourself and your precious Republican party. The good news.....the GOP is history and for the last five years all they've done is stand in the way of the president and connive on new ways to cheat. Get this ****!! Everybody sees what you're trying to do and you won't get away with it.

So you're old and ignorant to the process?

Re: Republican Majority In Supreme Court Strikes Down Section 4 of the Voting Rights

Yes, because requiring something as exotic as an ID to vote is cheating. We all know black people don't have IDs.

This wouldn't be a problem if Republicans did not have a tendency to make it hard for non-white Republican voters to get one.

IDs are fine if it's free and easy to get. When you have people like the Wisconsin Legislature and Governor Walker deliberately cutting hours or completely closing ID issuing locations in Democrat only districts, we have a problem.

Re: Republican Majority In Supreme Court Strikes Down Section 4 of the Voting Rights

Like I said.....Republicans will have to cheat to ever win another election on the national level:

Supreme Court Strikes Down Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act - Elspeth Reeve - The Atlantic Wire

This is excellent news....Really....

For years GOP has denied they are anti middle class, But thanks to Republican Congress and the good old boys republican Senators, plus their dire and iron clad pledge to Norquist, American people have seen how truly anti middle Class they all are.

by the same token they also have denied how racist and racially biased party they are...Wasn't it two hours right after the ruling that Texas passed the first Jim Crow law. So just sit back and watch the Republicans true color shine through. the best game in town is just to watch GOP and republicans dismantle themselves!

Trust me, this is a good news...Those racist...ahemm.. I mean Red States wouldn't have turned progressive unless get a big kick in bud...this ruling is just a big kick to wake people up..sit back and watch the greatest political drama on earth!

Re: Republican Majority In Supreme Court Strikes Down Section 4 of the Voting Rights

No, racist republicans are just tryin to suppress voters.....:doh

Isn't that a prejudice assumption?

Re: Republican Majority In Supreme Court Strikes Down Section 4 of the Voting Rights

In some ways it's quite valid.

For instance, it was the Wisconsin Legislature and Governor Walker who proposed completely shutting down ID issuing stations in black neighborhoods. They legislated that you had to have an ID to vote and then made it hard for only certain non-Republican voters to get them.

If that's not voter suppression, I don't know what is.

If they don't have an ID, they almost certainly don't have a job, so why would open hours matter? It's 2013, getting an ID is not a difficult task, and you need it for EVERYTHING. You can't buy a gun, drink, drive or travel without an ID, why is requiring an ID to vote this big extreme racist thing?

By that logic, I think it's racist the government requires ID for alcohol, because I know black people love alcohol, so they're just trying to keep it out of black people's hands!

You mean photo ID. And you don't need a photo ID to have a job. Note that the GOP isn't saying that any ID will work.

You seem to be missing the part about making it difficult for non-Republican voters to get IDs. The ID itself is fine. But when you are deliberately shutting down and cutting hours at places that issue IDs in only non-Republican strongholds, that is voter suppression.

Think of it this way. The Democrats enact a law stating that you need a special ID to vote. It's only issued by mobile ID trucks. The trucks never go into Republican strongholds deliberately and only make their whereabouts known on Democrat blogs/websites/social media.

Right but saying that with out that evidence is prejudice ridiculousness.

What the **** good is an ID without a photo? I could hold up a card that says Shaquille O'Neal, and without a picture there's no way to tell I'm not him. Go travel, buy alcohol, or drive without a picture ID.

And that should be illegal, that is voter suppression. But pointing out a few random cases doesn't condemn the entire idea or the majority of the supporters. They could just as easily close polling centers in places they didn't want to vote even without this bill. So what's the difference? Asking for a picture ID to do something as important as voting is not unreasonable.

Yeah...it was a 5-4 decision( 5 Republicans 4 Democrats) in the U S supreme court that elected George W. Bush too....well, His brother being the governor of Florida and his concubine being the Secretary of State there didn't hurt. Al Gore got over half a million more votes in this country than Bush did but guess what!! Along came slow walkin', slow talkin' George:

Wis. DMV says closure decisions aren't final - BusinessWeek

Just for clarification.

Why isn't anyone asking minorities WHY they don't have ID????

Lets tell the damn truth shall we? Many Hispanics don't have ID because they're here illegally. Very few blacks don't have ID already. The argument liberals make is a false argument. Problem is, anytime society asks just the smallest thing from minorities, liberals holler "RACIST", "JIM CROW"!!!!!!

The chicken little approach works less each and every time liberals use it.

If democrats weren't absolute idiots, Gore probably would have won. But they challenged just a couple Florida counties and not the whole state. Game over Gore. Idiots.

They tried to be cute and hand pick counties for recount. Backfired. They tried to manipulate the recounts too with all the dumbass lawsuits over "Hanging chads". Lol. If they had just done the recount correctly, Gore would of won. But he lost the recount. Game over Gore.

Liberals at their absolute finest, dumb as hell.

The Wisconsin story expands voter ID centers that are open a minimum of 20 hours per week to all 72 counties, instead of 30.

So your argument fails on every level.

Just another race bait. You've gotten so used to blacks buying this bull****, you don't know any other way of debating an issue. It's GOTTA be about race. Nothing else.

Kick rocks, your arguments are as stale as month old corn chips.

Way to completely ignore the topic and focus on the end result that resulted after the Wisconsin GOP got blasted for voter suppression. They backed off, but that doesn't change the fact that the list of ID closures were almost exclusively in Democrat leaning districts.

So your argument fails on every level.

Only if you're so partisan to the point where you ignore the actual topic.

But reasonable people do not.

Somethings tells me you're not going to do well here with that partisan hackery.

The issue isn't ID itself. It's the subsequent legislation that inevitably follows.

Funny, everybody seems to be focusing on the ID itself. If somebody is trying to suppress minority votes, that needs to be addressed. Requiring ID is not suppressing anybody, it's insuring the integrity of our elections.
