So apparently the Republican-controlled House passed a bill less than a week ago that spends more on agricultural subsidies than the Democratic Senate bill or even Obama's proposed bill. What hypocrisy. Oh, and it also makes commodity supports permanent (on sugar, peanuts, etc.) Every Republican should be disgusted with his/her Party.

Say no more. I will immediately switch to Democrat where there is no hypocrisy at all.

Ah, so you assume that because I am pointing out the hypocrisy of the Republican Party that I must think the Democratic Party is without sin. Wrong, my friend.

I really wish when a news outlet releases such information, that they listed the bill number as well. I would like to look this stuff up as I never trust their interpretation.

That's the message you took away from this? A libertarian tells you something ****ed up republicans are doing and you think he's beating the drum for the democrats?

Give me a break.

How fortuitous that this thread is named "Republican Logic".

I assume then you have never met a libertarian. They have a tendency to criticize both parties. This particular thread addresses the hypocrisy of Republicans on welfare.

New House farm bill cuts $12.9B, CBO finds - The Hill's On The Money
The article said fiscal groups are outraged. Good...

"...Fiscal groups expressed outrage on Thursday about a provision of the bill that would make the farm subsidies in the bill permanent law, instead of having them expire after five years. The change would remove pressure in the future to regularly revisit and justify farm subsidies and federally funded crop insurance.

"It is a staggering bait-and-switch that will bury taxpayers under billions of subsidies in perpetuity," said Steve Ellis of Taxpayers for Common Sense. The organization urged a vote against the bill....."

There's funding in the agriculture bill for US forest rangers to bust pot smokers, too. So be careful if you go to a national park or federal land on vacation and light up a bowl...you could go home on probation.

"...About a third of the convictions nationally were in cases brought by the Interior Department, which includes the National Park Service and Bureau of Land Management. The Agriculture Department, which oversees the U.S. Forest Service, accounted for 19 percent of the convictions, according to the clearinghouse. In Utah, the Park Service accounted for most case filings last year, with the Forest Service close behind...."

Neither should be subsidized by the Federal Government. It is nothing more than redistributing wealth & buying votes. If someone feels the need to subsidize anyone, let it be the states....at least then local funds will go to assist local needs.

That's how the free (to buy me) market works...you buy a politician, you get result. Supply and demand.

Mess with welfare and you're messing with Democratic voters. Mess with farm policy and you're messing with our food supply.

When it comes to hypocrisy, the Republicans outdo the Democrats in both volume and magnitude.

For example the key talking point of Republicans is "shrinking the size of government" and "eliminating waste" while at the same time accusing Democrats of being big spenders. Then you get news of Republicans putting more pork and waste in their bills after Democrats trim things down. Surely you can recognize how ridiculous it is to flip on 25 years worth of talking point history, and the magnitude of such hypocrisy.

Another example is "get the government out of our business"- but hey, we need it in the bedroom (gay marriage). No to SNAP but yes to ConAgra!

Dems are just as bad too...so no whining.

Well, no, this is mostly false. Under Bush Republicans kept discretionary spending flat. Under Clinton Republicans managed to bring down the national debt. Yes, Republicans were taking pork, but this was a miniscule part of the budget, and it's nothing compared to the croney-ism we've seen under Obama. Green energy, stimulus payments, infrastructure improvement = money into the pockets of Democrat supporters.

Do you deny that welfare recipients are overwhelmingly Democratic voters?
-------------
If I might interject......can you cite any legit studies supporting your premise?
I might also say that distributing small amounts of money to many individuals--via welfare, food stamps--is considered socialism by the GOP.
However, distributing huge amounts of money to a few individuals--corporate welfare--is just good capitalism to the GOP.

They are doing whatever they think will get them votes. They could be confused about that. Politics isn't science.

and how has that been working out for them? There is no "could" as far as I'm concerned. Tell that to political scientists... ;)

Again, our food supply and corporate economy are critical to our overall prosperity and security. Envy of their status is misplaced.

So, your position is that our food supply and corporate economy must be subsidized?
They can't make it on their own?
Too big to fail, I guess.
Every subsidy the gov't gives away is called "critical".
Are you sure you're a libertarian?

You must mean political social scientists. Politics isn't science. It isn't even close to being science.
