Republican financier Koch says Clinton might make better president

Well yes, obviously calling someone like Ted Cruz or Donald Trump a Rebublican is as laughable as thinking Clinton is a Liberal Progressive.

Donald Trump really isn't a Republican; he's just playing on the worst of their creations.

Ted Cruz is the epitome of the Republican Party, which is unfit to govern and has no interest in doing so. The Democrats suck, but the Republicans are a dumpster fire.

It's only instinctive for Charles Koch and the rest of his super-class to want to preserve a status quo that granted them the wealth and power of deities, and since Clinton is the only candidate with the willingness and competency to fulfill the task, it's equally instinctive for them to circumvent their ideological facades and endorse her, for mammon is the God of the moneymaker; ideological fervor contradicts his very nature.

Nevertheless, there's still a revelatory aspect to his statement. From the outset of the current primaries, and believing Clinton to be a continuation of Obama's neoliberalism - which, even if faulty, wouldn't justify risking a republican madman making it to the white house, I often rebuked democratic voters for their virulent repudiation of Clinton and their willingness to see the democratic party burn to the ground if Sanders loses the nomination. But Koch's abashed endorsement of Clinton and the hawkishness she lauds as a republican match reveal the extent of her conservatism - hence the indignation of the democratic base.

I suppose Cruz is what the modern Republican Party is about. Which is dissapointing, and terrifying that he would ever get enough votes to win a state primary.

He's the worst of the GOP pandering to the religious right.

Hillary is no different from Obama whose no different from Mitt Romney etc...

They all belong to the Corporate party.

I am still picking my jaw up off the floor. If you are a Republican presidential candidate, and Charles Koch says that Hillary Clinton might be a better president than you, then you'd better take a serious look in the mirror, because there is something seriously wrong with you. America already knows it. Too bad you don't............. Yet!!

That sounds about right. She might be the less large risk, depending possibly on the choice of VP.

Wow, every damn day lately I've been eating my words: "I can't possibly despise HRC any more than I do now...."

 So corny and overused. Other than their stances on abortion, foreign policy, trade, environmental policy, government role in education, taxation and a few other issues, they're roughly the exact same.

They're correct with their assessment.

The day we all quit listening to the Koch brothers speak, will be the day we are all better off.

And the "might make a better President" is argumentative in terms of some endorsement of or argument against another candidate.

It's always amusing when liberals are shown how liberal the Koch clan is. They are just not the conservative bêtes noires that left wingers make them out to be.

i don't GAF what the Koch brothers think about anything. the fact that any of us are interested in their opinions just because they have a lot of money and influence just shows how ****ed up the Citizens United decision really was.

The kochs like all the super rich arent interested in party loyalty they are for whoever they believe is best for them. Who better than wallstreet hillary.

That should destroy Clinton. After all the bad mouthing of the Koch Bros his recommendation would be seen as a negative by Clinton supporters if they were being honest.
Congruency theory.

Then let the Republicans and Democrats merge and become the Republicrat party. Their mascot can be a donkey's ass sticking out of an elephant's ass.

which would be far better than running a horse's ass as a presidential candidate.

We know it's fantasy because we're still in the primaries, and Hillary already said she's not fighting for a public option, campaign finance reform, not fighting for a higher minimum wage, not fighting for substantial Wall Street reform, etc, and we have her entire history post 1994 to judge her from.

Except she's come out for all of those things. She's signaled interest in using existing tools in the ACA to pursue public options, she's calling for the highest minimum wage in history, she's said overturning Citizens United is a litmus for her SCOTUS nominees, and she's put out the most comprehensive Wall Street regulation plan.

I saw that yesterday and had almost the same reaction. Now that Koch's plans for Paul Ryan have gone south, the truth is coming out. The right-wing has lost this thing BIG. They should fold up the tent and get some populists who know what they're doing and can draw from the center. And by "populists" I mean people who know what the majority issues really are.

I hope Hillary picks Warren to run with her. Warren will be the only one who can keep Clinton's feet to the fire.

Not surprising. Koch has been against Trump almost from the very beginning. Prolly because Koch knows Trump can't be bought like Hillary can.

Regardless of who gets elected this season though this country is in for some rough times ahead. Between Trump the Bigot, Hillary the liar/criminal, Sanders the Socialist, and Cruz the Religious Zealot and SCOTUS positions being opened up that could change just what is and isn't constitutional I don't see a bright future for freedom and independence for awhile.

LOL Trump can't be bought? Of course he can, it will just cost more. Trump likes money too much to turn down a big enough offer. The Koch's just know he will lose.

That is a pretty silly statement. Eisenhower wasn't really even a Republican. He was one of the most apolitical presidents we have had. Remember that the Democrats tried to get him to run in both 48 and 52. With even Truman willing to step down and by Eisenhower's VP. He only chose the republicans so that he wouldn't be tied down to having to defend FDRs policies and administration. His nickname wasnt the "middle of the roader" for nothing, he pretty much took both sides and split thier positions down the middle, that was never the mainstream republican platform.

Oh really?

Here are the words of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. I copied them from the text from the 1956 republican platform.

Our great President Dwight D. Eisenhower has counseled us further: "In all those things which deal with people, be liberal, be human. In all those things which deal with people's money, or their economy, or their form of government, be conservative."

The old school republican's do not even closely resemble today's GOP. I think you might find the link below interesting. Traditional, old school conservatives/republicans sound more like today's democrats. Today's GOP is just plain bat**** crazy. I didn't leave the republican party. The hijacked party left me.

Republican Party Platforms: Republican Party Platform of 1956

I really hope Hillary puts the annoyance of Sanders down soon so I can gauge her strength in the general. I'm leaning towards voting for her at this point, but she has to show me she can fight left wing extremist ideals in her own party and win before I can consider it. Sanders is a nice enough fellow but his weaknesses are some of the things I think are most important in a President. He is the Ron Paul of the left for me. An idealogue with no real sense of governing or knowing the details or wide reaching negative affects their ideals on a country that is center of their belief systems.

Koch’s non-answer IMHO a signal to the GOP…….
It will very well mean the GOP will focus on giving just token approval to Trump for his run for Office…
And using all its resources and influence supporting the endangered down-ballot members of Congress…….

If GOP loses control of Congress…………Do I need to draw pictures?

And contained in the Koch comment…………

…. just toss aside any idea of GOP president and learn to live with HRC and “the next 4 years” ….
But in the meantime plan for the mid-term election ……. And make a plan and creating a War Chest for 2020 national election….

This is not a new idea………they have done it before

I would never want Warren in any such toothless role as veep. I'd rather see her as Attorney General.

You can rest assured. She will spend her entire presidency fighting against the left.

It there ever was a scream of terror of "We are The Establishment and we are not going to take it anymore!" Coming from the Koch Brothers, this is it!

Koch is saying what lots of establishment players aren't saying out loud: "It's good for America when they call the shots."

Trump is sending a different message: America is going to change course just a bit. We are no longer going to be a "blind" free trader, we are going to be an "intelligent" free trader. This may cost jobs in China and Mexico, and will cause some price increases here in the USA. I accept that. Do you?

Who was the last president that stood up and said, "In trade agreements, American jobs come first!"?
Answer: ALL OF THEM!

But I believe Trump means it.

Veeps on a mission are not toothless. AG would be good though.
