An examination of U.S. press freedoms amid the Obama administration's shows an unprecedented number of prosecutions of government sources and seizures of journalists' records.

Report: Obama brings chilling effect on journalism

Maybe this is why the media and press are so much in Obama's camp. Maybe it is as simple as they are afraid of President Obama.

Note: This is MSN reporting this, not Fox.

"To bypass journalists, the White House developed its own network of websites, social media and even created an online newscast to dispense favorable information and images. In some cases, the White House produces videos of the president's meetings with major figures that were never listed on his public schedule. Instead, they were kept secret — a departure from past administrations, the report noted
.

Frank Sesno, a former CNN Washington bureau chief who is now director of George Washington University's School of Media and Public Affairs, told Downie the combined efforts of the Obama administration are "squeezing the flow of information."

"Open dialogue with the public without filters is good, but if used for propaganda and to avoid contact with journalists, it's a slippery slope," Sesno said.

Leonard Downie Jr., a former executive editor of The Washington Post, wrote the 30-page analysis entitled "The Obama Administration and the Press." The report notes President Barack Obama came into office pledging an open, transparent government after criticizing the Bush administration's secrecy, "but he has fallen short of his promise."

"In the Obama administration's Washington, government officials are increasingly afraid to talk to the press," wrote Downie, now a journalism professor at Arizona State University. "The administration's war on leaks and other efforts to control information are the most aggressive I've seen since the Nixon administration, when I was one of the editors involved in The Washington Post's investigation of Watergate."

Downie interviewed numerous reporters and editors, including a top editor at The Associated Press, following revelations this year that the government secretly seized records for telephone lines and switchboards used by more than 100 AP journalists. Downie also interviewed journalists whose sources have been prosecuted on felony charges."

While Putin has gone so far as to kill his press folks..
And for that, American Conservatives are cheering him on to get the Nobel Peace Prize..
And a real American CON group now aids Putin in taking children from families..

Is that how liberals react to aggression and intimidation? They cower in fear?

If true, all those intimidated leftists need to do is get on the truth train. Tell the objective truth and pick up your Pulitzer. Cowering with the pack won't distinguish you as a journalist.

For example, we all know Obama is doing everything possible to punish the public for this shut-down. Another example, we all know the White House directed the enforcement arms of government against conservatives on his "enemies list." A third is Obama almost certainly left his troops behind in Benghazi, by his personal order to stand-down.

Prove these and pick up your Pulitzer. Think of all the troops who put their lives on the line every day, surely you can put your career on the line? They don't give journalism awards for cowering. Surely you know this crowd is stealing our republic every day, one personal freedom at a time.

And he promised the "most transparent government in US history", yet he seems to be the exact opposite. He's a liar, plain and simple.

I saw that interview yesterday on CNBC or BBC. It was relatively convincing and seems to conform with what I would expect of Obama.

you know, you don't need to mindlessly defend everything the guy does because he has a "D" at the end of his name?

Good that Obama is promoting his interpretation of reality to his own people with free media mitigating most of it out. I see two benefits on this:

a) Now you have two sources of information. Use critical thinking and interpret reality for yourself. Come to debate it here if you want to.

b) Your lazy a$$ capitalist free media has been laying on their comfortable seats and not doing any real work for a while now! Their seeking of what is newsworthy to the general public (e.g., scandals and all the wrongdoings, sex, murder, Kardashian, Hilton, etc) has been biasing their outlet in favor of financial survival for way too long!

As a result of their bias no one in USA knows of Dardanian-American ties even! What are among USA's war interventions, liberation, help, one may ask and all the dates to WW2 with a blank space between and Afghanistan would show up! We are left out like "Err, what about 1999?!"

So take that capitalist free media! Now you have state owned competition to incite you to do some real burn damn work! See if you can neglect non-capitalistic newsworthy time and expect to be paid as you did now!!
