The middle class is fine in this country they are materially more wealthy then in the 1950s. Income inequality is not immoral, tax policy meant to change it is highly immoral.

However if you want to go back to the social mores of the 50s and 60s I’m willing to compromise

Every paycheck I have ever received has been from a wealthy person. One of the main reasons our country is the number of economic power in the world is because of our capitalistic system. Taxing millionaires and billionaires 90% will kill our capitalistic system and hurt those that work for a living. Think about it, if the Federal government takes 90% and the State takes 10% and the Lord gets 10% then that doesn't leave much to reinvest in jobs. Its not worth risking money for so little financial reward. A 90% Federal income tax will stymie reinvestment.

i prefer taxing all income as income above a cap, which can be negotiated. a ninety percent income tax is excessive, and will be dodged effectively by those with means. however, i do support wartime tax rates for all brackets in order to restore shared sacrifice.

I prefer taxing everyone at the same tax rate. But I think we should not tax income spent on housing food and clothing and transportation up to a certain reasonable amount. That way the poor who pays the majority of their income in housing , food, transportation wouldn't have to pay taxes and the rich that wants to live in expensive houses , eat expensive food, drive expensive cars pays more taxes.Basically don't tax necessities and tax luxuries. Don't want to pay taxes don't live an extravagant life style.
