Yes Boobie Rush here has intro'd a bill that will cause this Country even more money with and over healthcare. Not only is he trying to get more Federal funds for Chicago and Illinois. But now all across the country. Course the added emphasis is over gunshots. Also there was his son who was shot and couldn't get to a trauma center. So it is also personal to him. As is the Gun Issues.

In an effort to fix what he called a “dire” need for a South Side Level 1 trauma center, U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Ill.) has introduced a bill to provide $100 million to create more trauma centers.

Rush said he recognizes that $100 million isn’t enough to sustain the many areas that need trauma centers. But he said that it’s a start.

The bill, called the Trauma Act, was introduced in the U.S. House two weeks ago. A vote has not yet been called.

If the bill is passed, the money would be allocated to trauma deserts around the country, including Chicago. Trauma deserts are those that do not have a trauma center within a reasonable distance, such as five miles.

Chicago has four Level 1 trauma centers: John H. Stroger Jr Hospital of Cook County and Mount Sinai Hospital on the West Side and Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and Northwestern Memorial Hospital on the North Side.

Rush has said that he thinks his own son would be alive if there had been more trauma centers on the South Side. His son, Huey Rich, lost his life in 1999 partly due to the fact that the nearby hospital — just a few blocks from where Huey Rich was shot — did not have a Level 1 trauma care facility, he said.....snip~

Naturally he started with what he would consider a piddly amount. But he knows he can get more money if they pass the Bill. Other then will want more money from the Fed. To build New Trauma centers. Do you think they convert some medical facilities already in Use to create trauma centers? What about making sure other Hospitals have Trauma teams? Even critics from the left here in Chicago.....give Obamacare 3 years. Before it bleeds out everybody.

What about the creation of Specific Paramedics out with trauma teams in areas where there are more apt to be shootings? Course I am sure they could handle issues still with car and truck accidents.

Why call on the Fed when it is clearly a State issue and only certain states and cities anyways. Did he not read Hillary's Book.....It takes a Village. :2razz:

Maybe that $100 million would be better spent to stop all the "trauma" in the first place.

I would have to agree with you Maggie.....course all the others will want the same. Then Team Obama will let them know how much more they can get. So they can revise the bill for more. Plus whatever other pork they can attach to it.

Moreover I think they need more medical people. Think a bank would give me a loan to Hire some Special Ambulances and Trauma teams with Docs? It is for the Whole Good of Society.

As the Detroit council member said, "Bring home the bacon" "That's what you do"

Heya WCH. :2wave: Well.....they need Whole Sliced. Not bacon bits.

There are rumbling of some sort of backdoor support for Detroit, not necessarily a complete bailout.

Although, how much money has already gone down that wormhole?

Dunno about Detroit, other than what I have read.....it isn't much better here. Still.....how do you think this would affect Obamacare or if it would?

Already there are other issues with Hospitals and whats being implemented. Plus it seems they need more with trauma type training.

Moreover why wouldn't they add on to a Hospital or convert Medical units. Save money while doing so.

Opps, this is a case of assuming without reading the thread. Sorry.

Is it like other businesses that don't won't to be near the intercity because of crime?

Is this not the same as the 'food deserts' Michelle Obama described?

Sure there's money to be made and many would benefit but, who wants that sort of daily pressure?

Maybe the Old Black Panther should have thought about the culture he was nurturing back in the 70s.
He is reaping what he sowed.
Let them bleed on the streets.

There are only a couple hundred Level 1 trauma centers in the whole country. That Chicago has 4 should tell him that they have more than most places have. A less than Level 1 TC is capable of handling most gunshot wounds. There is no Level 1 TC in my city/county; or in our neighbors to the East of West and we have gunshot victims who survive more often than not. Level 1 requires a higher staffing level 24/7 across the entire spectrum.

Heya Fisher. :2wave: Yeah and having them built all over the Country will costs us too. Although I heard some medical people bitching about how some can just go down to the Carribean and be back here in a Couple years with practicing license to be a doctor. Don't know how true that is. As I don't hear much about shootings outta of the Carribean.

Good Day, MMC. Well if you were building from scratch and say you'd need a billion for each one just since small hospitals seem to sell for hundred of millions. But the reality is that in a lot of places, the airlift/transport infrastructure and staffing improvements would be the better way to go since it would be awful wasteful to have to keep a staff of surgeons and specialists on duty 24/7 sufficient to handle a mass casualty incident with most any type of injury in places where one does not usually need a plastic surgeon and a brain surgeon, etc. for trauma even once a month.

I think you are Right on that.....which I was alluding to with the Paramedic type situation. Albeit jokingly. Which they would have to be on some sort of call.

Course Boobie Rush has no problem filing bills to the Fed for More Money. Also for around here Rush will speak out about how much the South Side gets neglected or bypassed over.

Wonder how many NY or Los Angeles has for trauma centers?

Well if he had suggested using the $200,000,000 we are spending on women's rights in Afghanistan for Trauma centers in the US I probably would have agreed with him; but alas what he really wants is a few more votes. You know a few more public employees on the public trough to vote for democrats.

Well for around here anyways Cal. Btw that's what Stroger did with his Hospital.

Any of our members from NY City Or Los Angles? How many trauma centers do they have?

Thats Alright.....nevermind.

I am letting this go anyways.
