Removal of flag honoring veterans from White House sparks anger

Stop your lying about Obama's neglect for the Navy.

60% of fighter jets grounded.

Ships couldn't go to sea because they couldn't buy fuel.

Please stop the lies.

Guess the GOP Congress should have funded the military. But that was back when a Democrat was in the WH and Republicans supposedly cared about deficits. Now that a Republican is in the WH, to hell with the deficit! Except this year, because it's an election year.

These rules seem confusing but it's really simple. The GOP congress puts in things like the Budget Control Act sharply restricting spending (when a Democrat is in the WH), then blame the President for spending shortfalls, that Congress enforced, because DEFICITS!!! (but only when a Democrat is in the WH).

Complexity? There is nothing complex about Obama's disdain for the military. He decimated the officer corps, and then got his toadies in place. We are waiting for them to retire.

Link to him "decimating" the officer corps?

Grounded jets and ships in port is a waste of money.

Use them or get rid of them because the crews stagnate.

Something you don't have a freak clue about.

Got any more dumb assed hack comments?

What we need to do is cut the pensions and benefits of the personal to save money

I don't believe in socialism and that is what the military breeds

Your government and I made a agreement under contract for my expertise in exchange for certain priviledges and a exchange of money.

You don't have a clue what socialism is, but keep trying. :lamo

Dude, the military is straight up socialism.

You could never get the same deal out of a government socialist job.

Like I said.....

Thank you very much for paying for my boat and the ProV1's.

I don't blame you for milking the system. Just appreciate what you have and realize how beneficial your Cadillac socialism is and don't begrudge the poor when they have need.

You any good on the links?

5 hdcp.

I have plenty of time to play with the socialist benefits I receive from the tax payer.

Thank you for paying my green fees.

Or actually invest more money in updating them rather than spending military money on building new boats/ships with most of the same tech that was on the Enterprise or the Midway. Real innovation would be nice. Yes, it costs money.

However, you basically are going off a snapshot that isnt reality. Those same ships aren't still in dock, new ones are. And those new ones are still overbudget and not meeting maintenance deadlines. Because things cost more when you have shutdowns, and pay increases, and care more about building new ships than fixing old ones.

The military also has to spend more money on recruitment and retention during economically good times, because you dont get people qualified to be nukes and ITs to join or stay multiple enlistments in the military without some serious incentives, generally monetary, when they know they can get much better pay elsewhere. When the economy is bad, the military actually benefits.

No. You are not taking my pension. I earned it. You arent going to get experienced military personnel without offering a pension and/or benefits because people are not going to stay in long enough without such incentives.

Use them for what? You have thousands of acres of unused, brand new and used but serviceable aeroplanes sitting doing nothing but collecting dust in the Arizona desert boneyards. What on Earth do you need even more for? That is what I call a waste of money:

Davis-Monthan AFB, Tucson, AZ, largest aircraft boneyard in the world, at the 309th AMARG facility, tours, location, maps, history, photographs and access

LOL, yeah, you earned it.

The pensions are insane, the benefits are ridiculous.

They need to be rolled back ASAP.

It's all government jobs, not just the military. It's nothing but socialism.

No they don't. They are part of the deal for getting crappy pay and living conditions for 20+ years.

Without such benefits, we wouldnt have a standing military like we do. And other countries do similar things for their vets.

And I'm for UHC, setting up a system where people who don't want to or can't join the military can get similarly compensated for things like college funding, medical care, and even possibly a pension by doing some form of civil service for a set number of years, similar to the military.

But if it makes you happy, they have changed the system already. Servicemembers who joined even a few years ago are not eligible for the pension I get at 60. They will have to invest in TSP.

Not to drag this out but we should have universal conscription to start.

Then a fair and balanced compensation package for career officials. Not teh Rolls Royce package we have today.

---------------------

Don't even get me started on teachers, cops and fire benefits.

I'm for mandatory military or civil service (I know too many people who cannot or should not join the military) to get certain benefits or even rights/privileges. One of those things should be a prerequisite to holding any office is to have served your community in some form. The government has to provide something that would work for for almost any situation someone is willing to put effort in doing that helps society in a meaningful way.

Those who stay longer should get more. The longer you stay, the more the benefits are. Whether military, police, teacher, firefighter, nurse, or a few others (some dependent on actual position/employer rather than just job).

What's your feeling about Trump removing the POW/MIA flag? You like the idea? Trump did the right thing?

November 2019 - "Prominent federal buildings and national war memorials will now fly the iconic POW/MIA flag alongside the American flag throughout the year thanks to legislation signed into law Thursday. ...

“The daily display of the POW/MIA flag at all prominent federal properties now serves as a daily reminder that these heroes, and their families, are forever etched in our DNA,” said Veterans of Foreign Wars National Commander William Schmitz in a statement. ...

Mandatory raising of the flag had only been required on six days each year ..."

except one of the most prominent federal properties, the White House, the one Trump looks at every day.

Good grief, man. The flag was removed in May or June of this year and raised at the newly dedicated POW/MIA site at the WH.

You lot are so transparently hilarious.

I guess no one was seeing it at the top of the WH either ... because no one was complaining for the last 3 or 4 months that it wasn't there.

But to sooth your frayed nerves ...

"President Trump dedicated a POW/MIA memorial site earlier this year on the White House grounds to forever remember our heroic service members who were prisoners of war or missing in action," White House spokesman Judd Deere said. "The President selected a site on the Southwest corner of the South Lawn for this prominent and sacred memorial, which is visible to all those who visit the White House, that features the POW/MIA flag," he added. ...

For its part, the American legion said it was pleased that the flag "flies 24/7 at its own POW/MIA Memorial on White House grounds."
