Remember the poor and shun materialism, pope says on Christmas Eve

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Pope Francis led the world’s Roman Catholics into Christmas on Monday, urging people in the developed world to seek a simpler, less materialistic life and condemning the yawning gap between the rich and the poor.

Francis, 82, marking the sixth Christmas of his papacy, led a solemn service for nearly 10,000 people in St. Peter’s Basilica for his traditional Christmas Eve Mass.

Security has been tight around the Vatican and many other tourist areas in Rome for the Christmas season.

COMMENT:-

This is the message coming from someone who is wearing an outfit that costs more than at least 25% of the world's population earns in a year and who lived in a building that would cost around $7,000,000,000 to build today and which is situated on approximately $1,000,000,000 worth of real estate while speaking for an organization the Head Office of which has over $10,000,000,000 worth of investments and an annual income of at least $449,000,000 and which organization has an annual SPENDING budget in the neighbourhood of $175,000,000,000 (which is more than the estimated cost of providing clean water to everyone on the planet [and more than six times the estimated cost of wiping out world hunger]).

The words of the message are the right ones and although the Pope's spirit may be willing the RCC Inc.'s flesh sure appears to be weak.

Only on Christmas...how generous...
