Even a daycare provider. But I think those people should go through a psych analysis anyway.
Narcoleptsy and Drug addiction have an impact on job performance.
My point is who decides whats needed? If I owned a deli, I'd run the same checks. It's my business and it's my right to know who is working for me. If you don't want to be subjected to my inquiry then work elsewhere.
I am confused though, Are you seriously saying that a day care center shouldn't be allowed to run a background check on folks and exclude felons and other criminals?
Government agencies.
I am of the opinion that a person who has done their time in jail and has had good behavior, shown character while incarcerated, passes a psych analysis, is on good terms with a probation officer, and otherwise shows that they are interested in becoming a good citizen should be given a second chance.
Even though there is an "app" for that?
Background Check App for iPhone does exactly what you think it does
By forcing me to not know they served time? I'm sorry, but if I ran a day care, this dirtbags rehabilitation should not be at risk to the childeren I am in charge of....
How would I know if this guy met all your criteria if I wasn't allowed to run a background check on them?
Credit check: Should be illegal to check
List of previous employers (we call all of them) - OK
Background check - Criminal? In some situations thats ok
psychological background check - thats not a background check or personal history so that is A-OK
medical check - Should be illegal to check
record of clearance - who sings it?
and a plethora of others - no idea
Thats the point. Thats why most of these checks should be illegal. And by the way Walmart checks the same things as far as I know.
Requiring a clean background for a job at DoD is a legitimate job-related concern.
Now if an employer wants to use a credit check for a job involving finances, that's fine. I'd certainly understand that. But just using a credit check to get a vague sense for how "responsible" an employee might be is an invasion of privacy.
You can select what you wish to search on when you do a background check.
Companies should be able to use whatever criteria they want to decide how they choose employees. If you don't like what the employer is judging you on, then don't apply there.
And this kind of thing is why libertarians are viewed as a joke by everyone else.
Yup, in just the same way that asking people questions at an interview is an invasion or privacy. How dare they ask me if I graduated from school, thats none of their business! How dare they ask me if I mind coming in on time or occasionally working overtime. How dare they ask me why I left my last job. How dare they ask me if I enjoy working in a fast pased enviorment. Thats all an invasion of privacy, it's none of their business!
And this kind of thing is why libertarians are viewed as a joke by everyone else.
And this is how liberals would allow pedophiles to be day care operators....
Huh? Since when does being a pedophile show up on your credit report?
However, if I did have concerns about them doing those checks, the simple answer to it would have been... "No." So I'm still failing to see the issue some folks have with it.
It might show up on your criminal background check. I was using hyperbole like you. don't mind me.
What hyperbole? I used the example of sexual harassment to highlight the absurdity of the libertarian view that businesses should be able to require anything they want...and the libertarians here STILL agreed that employers should be allowed to require sexual favors as a condition for a job. In other words, it was an entirely accurate description of their view, not hyperbole.
well then by your logic by restricting private business from background checks of potential employers, you are enabling pedophiles.
most thieves are thieves
Really? A 19-year-old should have saved money their whole life in case they had an accident? I don't think 3 years of flipping burgers or running a cash register part-time is going to pay a $100,000 hospital bill. And how, pray tell, does a 19-year-old working part time at Wal-Mart or McDonald's or Blockbuster afford that? That is not an answer, that is what I want you to explain. Try again.
I wouldnt say that around your friends or co-workers. That statement makes you look like you have the understanding of my friends 12 year old. Im not kidding. I joke around a LOT on this forum but you really dont know how things work in the real world. I can point to many examples on a personal level to teach you. But Im guessing you wont listen because you just dont WANT to know how wrong you are. People LOSE money Chickie. The stock market..... health problems.... lay offs.... divorce.... a combination of those things. I have to ask... who or how did you EVER think "failing to prepare= preparing to fail. It really is that simple"and yes... you DID call people 'losers'.
Please point me to the post where I said that potential employers shouldn't be allowed to check to see if potential employees have a criminal history. Kthxbai.
Why should the 19 year old be on their parents insurance? A parent has no obligation to care for their children after age 18.
I agree that people should think about the long term. People should try to prepare.
But as the old saying goes, s*** happens.
Bad credit does not automatically equal deadbeat.
If I were an employer and I checked I would ask them about it. I would judge them by the situation. Not by what numbers say.
