All,
The mod team is here for you - the members - to make claims, debate, and discuss in a manner which is complementary, peaceful and educational for all. In order for the moderation team to claim that we are non-biased we have to walk that line. That involves taking action against members of the moderation team itself, making swift decisions, holding ourselves accountable and understanding the rules by critiquing ourselves consistently and work as a team.
You may be familiar with the fact that cnredd is no longer a moderator. You may have received a PM with all kinds of crazy claims. Those claims are simply untrue.
The decision to force cnredd to step down was mine and mine alone. I believe this is one of the sole tasks the lead moderator must do when it is necessary and I believe this decision was for the best. I, your lead moderator had failed you for far too long.
By being a moderator at Debate Politics, it is necessary to moderate posts, and not the posters. We simply must cast our grievances aside and hold each and every post to our highest standards before taking action. I believe cnredd let his feelings about the poster guide him to take action against many posts that would not have been an issue otherwise.
Every moderator should understand the difference between the public forums and the basement. cnredd was caught several times personally attacking and harassing targeted members outside of the basement. He was called out several times on this and forced to make apologies. I was becoming unsure of those apologies and just how far he was willing to go before a forced apology would no longer cut it. The members that have had this happen to them are very much familiar with this. Unfortunately, this action has come too late as some are no longer around.
Lastly, for the moderation team to be successful, we need to be able to criticise each others actions. Many of us felt unable to do that against cnredd for fear of retaliation and immature taunting. To all of you that have received the infamous PM, or read the claims in the basement, I am sorry for the drama.
Finally, we can get back to the reason why we are here - let's debate politics.
Sincearly,
Alan
