Received my open enrollment today, we no longer have the High plan that I have had for 15 years now, only Gold, Silver and Bronze. Obama has ****ed more working Americans again.

To go from the High Plan of 2013 to the Gold plan in 2014 I have to take a 20% increase in premium and will see less coverage than before thanks to the Democrats. Here are just a few examples:

Inpatient Surgery
---------------------------- High plan ---------- Gold plan
PCP office visit ------------- $25 copay ---------- $35 copay
lab work ------------------- 0 ------------------- 0
Inpatient Surg $3k neg----- $505 -------------- $795

Outpatient- $11,800 procedure---$1450 --------------$2600

Obama and democrats have ****ed the American working families.

You're looking at this the wrong way.

Now that you are paying more the 6 poor people that signed up for Obamacare can now get free insurance instead of just the free care they were getting before.

Here is another problem with it besides people not being able to keep their existing plans and keep costs low.

Another Obamacare Success Story: Turning a Future Lawyer into a Welfare Recipient.....

So, how much of a premium is strapping young Brendan Mahoney paying to help make ObamaCare work? Oops. The Courant reports that Mahoney “said that by filling out the application online, he discovered he was eligible for Medicaid. So, beginning next year, he won’t pay any premium at all.” .....snip~

Forbes and others think Obamacare will implode.....he is desperate for the money now just to attempt to make it work. This is going to turn out to be one massive failure costing this country not only money. But also, research and development, jobs, and people.

Repubs need to hammer home the special deal he gave Congress.....then Corporations and Unions. Keep Harping on that.....then the costs. Even the MS Media cant save him now.

Sure.

It won't be long before people (more people) start figuring out that it's easier to just cash in you chips and apply for disability. Why bust your ass for $30-40k/yr when you can get 2/3 of that in disability and make up the difference working a home business under the table?

Since you are having a real world experience, can you tell me (us) a little more? I'm not familiar with the term "high plan". Were you getting insurance through your employment? If so, are your employers changing insurance companies? Do you pay the monthly fee and if so how much is it.

I'm trying to understand this, there is NO snarkiness in my questions. I'm on Medicare which is a world of its own.

Sounds to me that regardless, your employer has just decided to pass more of the cost of your healthcare onto you, so that your employer can double his already doubled profits - at your expense. Maybe it's time you look for a new job, or to start price shopping for insurance.

I have a high deductable major medical policy from Blue Cross, it's about $150 a month, and thats about all I chose to pay for health insurance since I rarely spend much at the doc. I also price shop my docs, a basic doctors visit cost me $50, and thats without the involvement of insurance.

It gets worse Luther.....much worse.

With the implementation of Obamacare quickly approaching, Americans are asking what they can do to prepare for all the new costs and rules.

One expert, Betsy McCaughey, former Lieutenant Governor of New York and constitutional scholar with a Ph.D. from Columbia University, recently wrote a best-selling book showing Americans how they can survive Obamacare. McCaughey is one of the only people in the country -- including members of Congress - who has actually read the entire 2,572 page law.

Her book, titled Beating Obamacare: Your Handbook for Surviving the New Health Care Law breaks down the complicated bill into 168 pages of actionable advice.

For example, she points to a little known passage in the bill that shows how you could get slapped with a $2,000 fine for not having health insurance - even if you do actually have it. She also goes into detail explaining how one third of all U.S. employers could stop offering health insurance to their workers. In one chapter, she shows how ordinary Americans will get stuck paying for substance abuse coverage even if they never touched a drink or drug in their life.

According to McCaughey's research, senior citizens will get hit the hardest. "If you're a senior or a baby boomer, expect less care than in the past," she says. "Hip and knee replacements and cataract surgery will be especially hard to get from Medicare in the months ahead." Details here...

The law will compel Americans to share with millions of strangers who are not physicians confidential private and personal medical history information they do not wish to share.".....snip~

Hey, I am still up for the idea of secession... no fighting this time, just use the liberal template of civil disobedience and peaceful nonresistance, they simply cannot arrest us all.

If it can work for Mahatma and Martin, why not for us?:mrgreen:;)

I never thought I would even consider this and thought my Dad was crazy for saying it but I am beginning to think he is right about another civil war coming as freeloaders are ruining our country.

We never had a Civil War. The North and South would've had to have been fighting to control the same government for it to have been a civil war. I usually refer to is more correctly as the War of Northern Aggression.

That aside, no civil war likely now, because there are no major geographical political divisions that are pure enough to allow a side to congeal effectively. Worse, families are very divided. I suspect that what you'll get is an ever weaker economy because of the current rash of socialistic nonsense and all of the myriad other schemes that'll have to be hatched to compensate for their escalating failures, until finally the Union can no longer maintain cohesion.

Well, before you start loading your trusty Colt Army Model 1860, consider that "freeloaders" are not really getting much of a deal. Sure, more people will be "insured" - many of them against their will, via the "individual mandate".

But it will not necessarily result in any real "wealth transfer" to them. (In the short term, it is obviously the opposite: many are forced to buy a product they don't want, or pay a fine).

The key issue - the growing costs of actual health care - is not being addressed; worse: this legislation effectively blocks he road to addressing it in the foreseeable future. Given unavoidable budget constraints, will the newly-covered "freeloader" get better care, as opposed to relying on Medicaid and emergency rooms, if we are talking about those who really "cannot afford it"? Highly unlikely.

There are three groups who are going to benefit from this travesty: (1) (selected) health "insurance" companies; (2) government bureaucracies, and (3) self-serving politicians (on both sides, mind you - mock indignation is just as profitable as the true-believer mask).

I am not saying that dependence on government is not corrupting. It most certainly is. But let's have some sense of reality here. The ACA was not a result of some vulgar popular uprising - it was a result of the left-of-the-center political elites striking a mutually profitable deal with a particular group within the "couldn't care less about left or right" corporate elites.

"Crony capitalism", that's the term. (Hi, Comrade Colonel Putin).

Couple things there.....

If you are over (I believe it's) 30, you aren't allowed to keep that high deductible (catastrophic) plan. You are required to go with a full-coverage plan.

If you have insurance, you are not allowed to NOT tell a provider/pharmacy that you have insurance. Your contract with the insurance (single or group) may be voided if you do not advise the provider, and their contract may be voided also. That is to insure that the insurance knows every single thing you have done, so they can rate your insurance in case of illness.

Pretty presumptuous to say the employer is doubling his profits by choosing the Exchange, since you know nada about the employer or his profits. He may be only squeaking by, and to have to pay more in premiums might sink the ship, so he's chosen to drop the insurance altogether, to make sure his employees can keep their jobs. We just don't know.

Unfortunately, you have chosen to close your eyes to what is happening to other people with the implementation of the individual mandate.... the middle class isn't just getting screwed. It's dry, too.

My employer switched to plans like this about 10 years ago. All the options sucked.

Luckily they had one additional option -Kaiser. I have been with Kaiser since.

Many employers went down that path years ago - without ACA

1. Who is "we"? You and your family? You're talking about buying an individual plan on the private market, right? Not as part of a group policy?

2. What is your age?

3. What state are you enrollling in?

4. What ins. companies are your comparing (between your "high plan" and the Gold plan)?

5. What is your current premium for the "high plan"? Is that for a family?

6. What will be the premium for the Gold plan?

7. Is your current "high plan" a PPO? That is, it has an "in network" part and an "out of network" part?

8. Does the Gold plan have an "in network" and "out of network" system? Or does that plan you're citing apply to all care providers...no network. Or just to an "in network" list of care providers (an HMO)?

9. What are the deductibles on both plans?

10. What are the annual out of pocket limits of both plans? (that is, the amount that is the max you'll have to pay out of pocket for the year)

11. What is the total cap on the policy, that it will pay for the "high plan" and for the "Gold Plan"? That is, if you get cancer of MS or some catastrophic injury...at what amt does the ins. co. cut you off?

12. What do preventive care visits cost under your current "high plan"? Has Obamacare kicked in on that, so that they are free, yet? (annual checkups, mammograms, etc.) Preventive exams and such are free under Obamacare.
