[Caution: wonkish! Hopefully, one or more readers will take time to think about this and respond.]

I'm reading an interesting book dealing with 'reality', lived and perceived. One of the things the author notes in passing is that Mrs. Hillary Rodham Clinton may have lost the 2016 election because she did not fully understand that it was a reality TV contest as much, or perhaps more, than a political campaign.

The book itself is a consideration of what we mean by real life. Consider, if you will, a TV show such as the real housewives of wherever. Let's say it's scripted to some extent. That makes it something other than 'real' life, no? And yet, for the women performing before the camera, it is their 'real' life at that point in time. Or is it?

You can see how this leads to something as, from a distance, unreal as the presidency just past, complete with Tweets(s).

The 2024 presidential campaign will unfold before an audience even more steeped in reality TV, not to mention the disembodied 'reality' of 'net sites and communications such as this one.

Regards, [I think,] and think about it a bit.

Hillary lost in 2016 because independent voters (the largest voting bloc in the US) realized she was crooked, so they held their noses and voted for her opponent instead.

That's the reality of it.

Hi!

Though the post quoted above is somewhat off-topic, I'd be interested in data from the studies which found this to be the case.

Regards, stay safe 'n well 'n remember the Big 5.
