Rangel misappropriates $393,000

They need to give him to Sheriff Joe. :lamo

This won't happen, why....?? because he is a Democrat. Can you imagine if this crook was a Republican? Dems. would of had that rope ready to hang him the very next day.

yep, Rangel found guilty and the Dems will defend him. Larry Craig had a wide stance and they wanted to crucify him. Standards of conduct should apply equally to everyone. Get rid of this POS Rangel ASAP

This is what Rangel said about himself yesterday: " I am as pure as the driven snow" :lamo. This guy has been in the House for so long that it's pathetic.
He is 80 and is about time to get the hell out (If he has any brains) and enjoy the few years he has left.

Anybody have an actual instance of Democrats "defending" Rangel?

I haven't seen it.

the fact that they haven't forced him to resign (you know like the pubs did with Craig) is instance enough. he is an embarrassment. maybe now that he has actually been found guilty, they will finally act.

we know the fellow is a buffoon to advise that he has spent $2 million on legal fees only to show up at the hearing unrepresented
but then he has made a career of pissing away the public's money

But they'd be conflicted because they don't believe in the death penalty.

House Ways & Means Chief, Mr. Tax Law Writer gets...

CENSURE?
(Projectile vomit icon.)

This guy should be booted and subject to the typical anal probe a normal citizen would get. Sans Vaseline.

This man is everything wrong about a politicians all rolled up into one ugly little ball. Term limits, term limits, term limits.

we have term limits ... each election
unfortunately, voters seem unable to figure that out
in the instance of rangel, there has never been a more appropriate example of the adage that 'we elect the politicians we deserve'

Congressman Charles Rangel, whose ethics trial starts tomorrow, appears to have improperly used political-action committee money to pay for his defense.

Rangel tapped his National Leadership PAC for $293,000 to pay his main legal-defense team this year. He took another $100,000 from the PAC in 2009 to pay lawyer Lanny Davis.

Two legal experts told The Post such spending is against House rules.

"It's a breach of congressional ethics," one campaign-finance lawyer said.

Washington, DC, political lawyer Cleta Mitchell said there is "no authority for a member to use leadership PAC funds as a slush fund to pay for personal or official expenses."..

"Accepting money or payment for legal expenses from any other source, including a PAC, would be a gift and is barred by the House rules," the lawyer said.

The Ethics Committee had no comment. Rangel's office refused to comment on the PAC money.

On top of the $393,000 in PAC funds, records show Rangel yanked $1.4 million from his campaign coffers in 2009 and 2010 to pay the firm Zuckerman Spaeder, his main legal-defense team, and $100,000 in 2009 to pay Davis' firm.

He also spent $147,577 for Washington, DC, lawyer John Kern and $174,303 for Watkins, Meegan, Drury & Co., a firm that offers forensic accounting and legal services.

An eight-member ethics subcommittee of four Democrats and four Republicans will convene at 9 a.m. to hear the 13 charges...

This guy is an embarrassment. He went from being a decorated Korean combat vet to a laughingstock and one of the most corrupt members of Congress. He should just retire so that he can keep whatever little dignity he has left intact.
