AP) COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A GOP lawmaker hoping to be the state's first female governor is getting publicity for all the wrong reasons.

First a political blogger said he and Rep. Nikki Haley had an inappropriate physical relationship when he worked for her in 2007. Then a lobbyist said he had a one-night stand with her in a Salt Lake City hotel room during a school choice conference.

On Thursday, state Sen. Jake Knotts used an ethnic slur to refer to Haley, whose parents immigrated from India.

"We've got a raghead in Washington, we don't need a raghead in the Statehouse," Knotts said on an Internet political talk show. He later apologized, saying the remarks were meant as a joke.

If it isn't a microphone "on" or a politician making a "joke" it seems we have an overabundance of diarrhea of the mouth of politicians.

If you really believe that the term is not supposed to refer to Indians, then you don't get around much. I hear the term several times a week here in Houston, and at least one of them refers to Indians. In fact, raghead is used more than dot here in Houston. Of course, Houston is more of an international melting pot than Dallas, and that might explain our disagreement.

Ive been called a spic, taco nigger, illegal, communist, raghead, terrorist, sand nigger and a whole host of others so Im not saying that. Just so you know - you're right that Arabs and Indians are different peoples. However, Sikhs (who are Indian) wear turbans and are frequently called "ragheads". Indeed, a Sikh in Arizona was murdered by idiot racists after 9/11 because they equated his Sikh attire to Arabic traditional garb.

So, it's misplaced, yes. But it's not as if racists are known for their intelligence (or their "good jokes").

You are correct, and that said people of Indian really do not see eye to eye with the Arabic people, hence waring India and Pakistan..oops Pakistan people are not Arabs but do practice Islam.
