Questioning If An Election Will Be 'Rigged' Strikes At The Heart Of Democracy

Even before the first vote has been cast, Trump informed Sean Hannity that our electoral process was fundamentally illegitimate, that our democracy was as subject to political whims as that of Putin’s Russia or Mugabe’s Zimbabwe.

Donald Trump said:
“I’m telling you, November 8th, we’d better be careful, because that election is going to be rigged,” Trump told Hannity. “And I hope the Republicans are watching closely or it’s going to be taken away from us.”

In pushing the discredited notion that the election will somehow be stolen from him, Trump does our country a massive disservice

Who can look at the two choices and say that the system is not rigged.

You're dealing with a woman with a high unlikable rating that cheated to win the nomination, and a man with a high unlikable that appears to be dumber than a box of hammers and doing everything he can to give Hillary the election. You tell me.

and we have an electorate so loyal to their party that they will simply go along and vote for one of the two based on the letter after their name.

Then, they will select their representatives in the same way.

Trump was right about so many things.

In the South Carolina Debate he said that the crowd was full of establishment candidate supporters instead of the general public and he was right.

The GOP STACKED THE AUDIENCE WITH ANTI-TRUMP PEOPLE IN THE AUDIENCE.

The DNC was proven to be cheating against Bernie Sanders to favor Hillary Clinton. And there's increased suspicion that those who counted the votes were not reporting votes accurately.

The media is going into overdrive trying to sink Trump.

So yes, it's a valid question and a valid concern seeing as how the establishment in this country is doing everything in it's power to cheat.

Our election system is so porus. If the leaders really cared they'd design a better system, but until Republicans start consistently winning races, there will be no demand from the media to fix it.

We are stone stupid. If Russia, Iran, or China wanted to they could destroy our election process with a few lines of code. Then what? The tribes would each call the president "illegitimate", and we be more poisoned than we already are.

Good post.

There's 'technical proof', at the least!

I think it's telling that as soon as Hillary's numbers took a hit the amount of stupid crap coming out of Trump's face went into overdrive right up to the point where her numbers returned back to what they were.

If we let the process be manipulated, that would indeed strike at the heart of our democracy. You see, one wakes up every morning to a democracy one must work and defend. If one doesn't, one can lose it easily.

After the last 18 months, the tinfoil hat folks have real evidence they can point and say "See! I told you so!"

And level headed people find themselves thinking "****, maybe they were right".

If I were in trumps shoes, I would think the same. The DNC plays a very dirty game, and it has been exposed for all to see. And half the RNC seems to want to help.

Who can look at the two choices and say that the system is not rigged.

It may be rigged, but not in the way Trump asserts. The real rigging centers around (1) the fact that no matter how much of a grass-roots movement you come from, you realize you are utterly powerless in congress or as president unless you play ball with the real power brokers: lobbyists and their masters, (2) the two parties are inseparably united against third parties.

There's a reason third party candidates are rare in congress and it isn't that all third party candidates are awful. It's because of how hard it is to begin to do anything given the rules built up around elections.

And the Republican "establishment" didn't try to derail Trump in the primaries? How many emails do you suppose the RNC sent back and forth about derailing Donald?

The GOP has a long history of making allegations of voter fraud impacting on elections. Polls indicate they are successful in creating public opinion that voter fraud is a concern (30%).

A 5 year study of voter fraud started by George Bush concluded that voter fraud had no impact on the outcome of Federal Elections. Every OTHER study since confirms that conclusion.

So what prompted Donald Trump to say our Federal Elections are "rigged". Is he ALREADY pointing the finger of blame AWAY from himself. To prove it was NOT his fault?

Now politics are politics. Trump is a master of attack and innuendo when he has nothing intelligent to say. All the GOP has to say about Hillary is "Bengazi and E mail", over and over and over. Unlikely to persuade many undecided voters with those slogans Hillary Clinton has been under a microscope for decades.

Not a week goes by and we get NEW dirt on Donald Trump. They are just getting started cleaning out Donald Trumps dark closets. That is WHY he isn't getting any BiG Pac money. They pay to influence winners and not losers. The Super Pacs are spending their money to elect and re-elect Congressmen of their liking. The ones who know darn well that Donald Trump can't do it ALONE at all.
