Neither. They're both useless

Neither would be effective, but at least Kofi Annan is somewhat respected by the countries of the world, as a diplomat should be. And while Kofi hasn't been great for the UN's credibility, Bush would be far, far worse.

So I vote Kofi.

How about Homer Simpson?

The UN is a bunch of trators. Even though we do mostly fund them, they are absolutely useless, and I dont think we should trust them.

I vote with Cherokee; Homer Simpson.

Haha yes I'd vote for Homer Simpson anyday to be honest

Have people forgot about all the corruption and scandals that have taken place within the security council? Kofi's hands are definitely not clean either.

Also, can someone explain to me how a fictitious cartoon character can be more intelligent than a sitting president who received an MBA in business?

The Simpsons is by far the best running sitcom ever IMO.

So sure, I nominate Homer. A fictional character couldn't do any worse than this clown Kofi.

Other option needed. Common problem around here.

Neither Kofi Annan nor George W. Bush.

I doubt that the world actually respects Kofi. If it does, then I pity the world.

I think it is possible that the world respects George W. Bush more than Kofi Annan. If they don't, then I pity the world.

However, the world has to be able to do better than Kofi or George. There must be many much better persons for the job.

But with the people who are currently in charge of chosing who is UN head, I doubt we will get a good UN leader....ever.

The leader of the U.N. should be an international man: Not only is Bush about as international as a hillbilly, but he doesn't seem to like nations other that the US very much...

Both the poll and the U.N. are pointless.

Not really. Everything has a point. The importance of this point is directly related to your opinion of the issues involved.

IMO, the point of this poll is that some people don't post good polls, that the options available for UN leader are very poor, and that no one really has any idea who would make a good UN leader.

IMO, the point of the UN is that having a organization made up of representatives from part of the countries that inhabit the world try to decide what the whole world does using the most incompetent and corrupt bureaucracy known to mankind (so far) while having no teeth and not much of a bark will do nothing except suck funds into a virtual black hole. In short, it is an example of how not to run an organization.

Very good question Six, and I don't think a mature adult compare a damn cartoon clown with a real person.

Questionable at best.

I'm not sure I understand your response.

However, I shall try and restate my statement, for clarity's sake.

If the world as a whole were able to vote on who they respected more, Kofi Annan or George W. Bush, it is my personal opinion that said vote, if it somehow were not subject to any modification through all the myriad ways it could be modified, would tell us that the people of the world respected George W. Bush more than Kofi Annan.

I know I do.

The relevant definition of respect:

According to the best estimate of the nonpartisan US Government Accounting Office, Oil for Food generated at least $10 billion ($15.4 billion) for Saddam's family and a further $1 billion ($1.54 billion) to pay the 1000-plus UN bureaucrats who were supposed to be keeping it honest.

Again, the focus is on Kofi Annan, who helped to set up Oil For Food in 1997 and installed his close friend and fellow diplomat Benon Sevan as its director.

Very respectable indeed.

Well compare that to the money Bush has generated for private contractors in Iraq who are supposed to be "rebuilding".
