Has God always existed?

If so, he existed for an infinite time before he created man.

What happened that he one day decide to create man, after an infinite time?

Some will say he did. The Bible says "in the beginning" the face of the deep was covered in darkness, then it sets up its 2 different creation stories. The way I take it, before the creation of the earth, this fellow called "God" was just sitting, floating in the water in the dark, then all of a sudden gets the urge to create mankind. But who the hell created this God? In Genesis, one would assume that this guy spent an infinite amount of time before the creation, in the dark.
