Ukraine IIRC is the world's third biggest producer of grain; Ukraine and Russia together export 1/3 of the grain exported in the world. This is a paradox. On the one side we have the unacceptable attack by Putin on a country, on democracy, on civilians. On the other we have massive economic impacts by trying to isolate Russia (and that should include China). 40% of European oil, all the grain for the world's poor I mentioned, countless more things, and imagine if China were added. This is how so much criminality is allowed - the cost to stop it is high. This is an unusual case, so far, the world is willing to pay that cost. Usually, even if you had some countries willing to sanction, others would not making the sanctions have little impact. But if we let Putin get away with this, not only will that be terribly wrong, it will greatly encourage a lot more people to do wrongs. We need to make an example of Putin, without leading to nuclear war.
