  • On Tuesday, Reuters reported Putin said sanctions would lead to a global food crisis.
  • He added that the Kremlin may export only to countries that are friendly with Russia.
  • A Russian official last week called food a "quiet weapon" in the fight against Western sanctions.

He's right, of course. We live in a global economy where sustaining sanctions against a player as big as Russia will mean a lot of sacrifice and suffering around the globe - including here at home. It is only through the absolute resolve of western nations that Russia can be made to pay the price for Putin's folly, and Russian military forces completely driven out of Ukraine's borders. And because of the ignorance and selfishness of the average American, I'm not optimistic about success in that mission.

He is unfortunately correct

Russia and Ukraine are among the largest grain exporters in the world, having their stock removes from markets will cause food shortages in much of the poorest countries. That will cause instability in those countries

Yeah, and his invasion of "the breadbasket of Europe" is having nothing to do with that.

Well, there's an easy solution to that problem.

So Putin is causing instability in poor countries. Add that to the list of his crimes.

Why don't we all just get together and arrive at a peaceful solution like was done with Germany (Russia) and the Sudetenland (Ukraine) by way of the Munich Agreement? Peace in our time! Oh, wait. Germany hadn't invaded any country yet. But Russia already invaded Crimea of the Ukraine, with a majority Russian pop, though the Sudetenland had the highest % Germans of any country than, perhaps, Austria. And, of course, Germany. Russia also has quite a grip on the Donbas region of Ukraine. Sorta gave their hand away, just a tiny bit, at least to those who can see beyond the end of their nose, more so than did Germany before WW2.

Russia still has the grain to export but sanctions prevent other countries from buying it

Or just turn a blind eye like was done with the US invasion of Iraq

He should have thought of that before he started a war.

That’s what Putin expected. He ran the Nazi play almost exactly. Expecting that NATO would dither, and that the US would be so politically divided that it was unable or unwilling to lead.

That certainly would have been the case had trump survived.

He wanted the US and NATO to cave in to his demands. He expected it.

Trump endorsed that tactic.

Now, Putin is hoping that he can secure all the land east of the Deniper River, and declare victory, or try and force the negotiated give away of Ukrainian land that he though he was going to get in the first place.

That’s why it is imperative that the Red Army be driven entirely out of Ukrainian territory now.

Putin’s hypocrisy is pegging the hypocrisy meter.

Russia is destroying food storage facilities and putting land mined in farm land — effectively disrupting the ability of Ukraine to produce wheat that feeds a large part of the world— but it’s the sanctions that he says is the real problem.

Putin and his regime of terror are just spewing nonsense at this point, the only one's eating it up are Republicans and the lunatics over at FoxNews.

…and unfortunately, the Russian people, who are subjected to Putin’s propaganda. The Russian soldiers really think they are killing Nazis when they shoot civilians.

He gets to talk, which is what he wants, talking from a position of world power, because "He invaded some of the best agricultural land in Europe..."

The US and Europe endorsed Russia's invasion of Ukraine's Crimea and occupation of Donbas by failing to have ultimately supplied, however gradual, the armament of Ukraine, from the onset of Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2014.

What moral appeals? If you think he doesn't get to talk, why is everybody listening? Or, please clarify.

He is making a moral appeal to stop sanctions against him on behalf of the poor people of the world.

We're listening because he is making threats and blowing stuff up.

We shouldn't be, there is no winning when negotiating with terrorists.

Good news for American farmers, in regards to prices. They need the support.

Awful that it comes at expense of even poorer people...
