Can they be compared? Each lead a military that invaded a nation and each commanded over soldiers that committed crimes.

People are debating should Putin be executed. One said that Putin should be shot between the eyes. The legality of the whole Iraq War is in question and in hindsight we now know that they entire war was based off of lies by the US Government... not to mention its double standard. Israel is guilty of UN violations and has WMDs. hmm....

Estimates of Iraqi civilian deaths range from around 200,000 people to over 1 MILLION PEOPLE... GWB gets a pass though?

Bush does not get a free pass. But Zelensky was elected, Hussein was not. Bush didn't threaten to use nukes and wasn't a menace to international stability , Putin has been. Bush is no hero , but his crimes aren't as horrific and destabilizing as what we're seeing now.

What does being elected have to do with anything when talking about War Crimes? Answer: Nothing.

Less than 3,000 dead civilians in Ukraine and perhaps ONE MILLION DEAD in Iraq... and his crimes are not as horrific?

Who killed the 1 million in Iraq, exactly?

The US Military and Terrorists while engaging in the war. Are you going to quibble about numbers even when the Russians have killed less than 3,000 and the US Military killed 10 to 100 times that number... should we now include Afghanistan and the thousands more?

Definite parallels between the two invasions. A ton of countries went along for the ride though in Iraq, which did lend some international legitimacy even though the reasons for war were as fabricated. No one was talking about sanctions or kicking the US out of the UN. In fact the French were called traitors when they said they’d use their veto and their exports boycotted.

Seriously?

I will answer other.

In my opinion, it is an individual that sits with a new heart (transplant) watching Scooby-Doo. Aside from the deaths in the Middle East, he stepped on the intelligence industry like an adversary would - CIA specifically, pressured them to change the reports and destroyed the reputation of Collin Powell. Not to mention Guantanamo Bay was his and Donald Rumsfeld's idea if I remember correctly.

You guessed it: Dick Cheney.

Is basic psychology, when someone from your group does this, it's hard to see it. His followers in my view are the same as Putin's followers. They will justify it no matter what.

Putin is in the process of becoming a war criminal. He will reach this level very soon.

Why leave out Biden? He ordered a drone attack that killed women and children, then tried to cover it up.

Obama has plenty of blood on his hands as well.

I voted for neither for one reason. Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Nope. Putin is a dictator and ordered the intentional killing of innocents, Bush is not a tyrant and did not order innocent people to be murdered.
The war on Ukraine is a war on a peaceful neighbor not threatening Russia or anyone else, the war on Iraq was a war on a tyrannical, terror regime that murdered innocents by the masses.
The two cases are remarkably distinct.

Both resulted in the death of innocent civilians... war crimes. How is that different?

Deaths yes, war crimes no.
A lot of things that share similar results are vastly different.

I guess if Bush was a war criminal that he would have been arrested and locked in prison by now, no?
America has a long history of coddling their war criminals.
"William Laws Calley Jr. He was found guilty in 1971 of murder and sentenced to life. (President Nixon changed Calley's sentence to house arrest, and he served about three years).

These are crimes committed by soldiers, not war crimes of a nation ordering its troops to murder or rape.
Bush didn't pick a rifle and shoot these innocents or ordered the soldiers of his nation's military to do so.

Uh....no, they are blatant examples of war crimes. In each case, the laws of war were violated by US servicemen or the mercenaries working for us. Bush not personally committing said war crimes doesn’t change the fact that it was his decision making, and the policies of his army, which enabled them to occur in the first place.

Yes but that's just silly, he didn't send them with orders to rape and murder innocents and their behavior was not in accordance with the US military code of conduct.
It's very forced to try to put their crimes on Bush's hands, or on anyone other than their own for that matter.

Doesn’t matter, because that’s precisely what they did. The fact that (some) of them were punished for committing said war crimes doesn’t change the fact that they committed war crimes.

Not even slightly. If Bush doesn’t make the decision to invade, they are in no position to commit said war crimes in the first place.

I’d put most of the war crimes in the hands of the mercenary forces that were hired.

That's not a real argument.
If you're sent to work in Paris and rape a woman there they don't put your company's CEO in jail because "you wouldn't be there otherwise".
