MOSCOW, September 12 (RIA Novosti) - A potential US strike on Syria is fraught with dangerous consequences, Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned in an op-ed he wrote for the New York Times.
Washington is currently contemplating a strike on Syria as retaliation for a deadly August 21 chemical weapons attack in a Damascus suburb, which it has attributed to the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad. Official Damascus has blamed the attack on rebel forces, and Russia has tentatively backed its long-time ally, while calling for further investigation.
"Recent events surrounding Syria have prompted me to speak directly to the American people and their political leaders. It is important to do so at a time of insufficient communication between our societies," Putin said in the op-ed, entitled "A Plea for Caution from Russia," which was posted on the US newspaper's website Wednesday.

If he is being heartfelt then it seems like a noble gesture to even attempt it. Not a single person I know in real life is for strikes or invasion of Syria. 0%.

Besides being a political coup, the op-ed voices facts contrary to the manipulated Mainstream Media in the USA. There is still some freedom of the press and Putin very wisely found that niche to promote a platform of common sense and reason. Even humanity, because it is an attempt to save lives. Putin should get Obama's Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts.

Give peace a chance instead of being hawkish.

This is akin to Putin doing the Victor Cruz salsa dance in the end zone in our football stadium. Make no mistake, Putin is grandstanding and showboating in Obama's face here. He's out-world-leadered Obama badly on this and made him look weak, inexperienced, and foolish.

Putin humiliates Obama because he can. Why, because it is easy. Obama has no qualifications in international issues. For him to be Commander in Chief is like a young senator of 2 years being President of The Untied States. Obama is lost and in so deep over his head he can only manage to look childish and hideous as he tries to squirm out of the mess his mouth got him in to.

Thanks to the brilliant efforts of the Obama Administrations diplomatic team, Assad has agreed to disarm himself of chem weapons

And the Obama haters think this is bad :lamo

The United States of America is beginning to look foolish. Good on Putin.

Iran has also agreed (many times) to stop its nuclear program even though it claimed it to be for peaceful purposes. Lybia gets lots of U.S. aid as it tells Obama to buzz off when he "demands" justice for the Benghazi affair. Egypt is under a military coup, but Obama keeps the U.S. aid flowing. Pakistan has nukes, jailed the doctor helping Obama kill UBL, yet Obama sends them billions. Obama has seen exactly what done, so far, with the CWs in Syria? Obama is a great and feared leader, nobody dare commit acts of terror any more.

Yes, it's horrible that Assad has agreed to disarm himself of chem weapons

We should all hang our heads in shame

I would venture to say that anyone facing charges of mass murder would gladly agree to give up their favorite gun too, is that the kind of Obama justice that you would prefer?

Good point!

Because Weapons of Mass Destruction are exactly like a gun

Yes, Assad is going to give up his chem weapons

1. You dont know that he will.
2. He is only doing anything based on what Russia is telling him to do, not us.

Kinda sad when Putin makes sense and Obama doesn't.

If you actually believe he will do this, you should hang your head in shame.

Putin told Obama to step the **** off, and he did. That's all that happened here.

Meanwhile, Putin is stockpiling Iran with new weapons.

Sure that's all this is, not a chance that Putin is ACTUALLY trying to prevent Syria from spreading out in the region or worse............

It has never been PROVEN that president Assad used chemical weapons on his civilians.

Well sure. Doesn't it make sense that Syria would trust their ally over the US? And thankfully we have Putin actually working to defuse US military aggression, again.

Russia supports Assad to the bitter end. They have massive interests in protecting Syria and Iran.

Putin basically made Obama his bitch in all this. Now he's spiking the football in the NY Times.

Watching a decade or better of US aggression in the region, why wouldn't Russia and China bow up as they are. Clearly they are sick of it and intend to REALLY do something about it now.

Actually, Russian disapproval of US aggression in the region predates Obama.
