The west broke the Soviet Union. Putin wants to return the favor. Brexit was a success, and he has plans in the works for the US.
The question: how can Putin break the US?
The answer: Have Trump sell California to the tech giants as a "solution" to the debt crisis. If Trump is known for one thing, it is running up debt and selling off assets in an attempt to pay that debt. So far Trump's policies have ballooned our debt, now all he needs is a "good" reason to sell California. What if California attempts to secede? Trump will then be able to just say "fine, you don't want to be here, we don't need you".
Obviously this scenario is highly improbable, but it was interesting to find out that Russia has been pushing Californian independence propaganda since trump was elected: https://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-trending-41853131
